Job summary

GFL Environmental Inc. is seeking an experienced Operations Manager to oversee the performance and safety of multiple waste processing sites in Ohio.

You will lead teams, manage budgets, and ensure regulatory compliance while driving efficiency and continuous improvement. Ideal candidates will bring 5+ years in operations leadership, strong data analysis skills, and a proven ability to coordinate across departments to meet safety and production targets.

Qualifications

• Diploma or Degree in business or equivalent work experience required.
• Minimum 5 years in an Operations Manager or Supervisor role.
• Supervisor training.
• First Aid training certificate.
• Experience and strong knowledge in operation of waste vehicles.
• Experience and strong knowledge of operation of all company machines.
• Strong knowledge of Highway traffic act and Safety Act.
• Proven record in management of operations at waste processing sites in a safe and efficient manner.
• Experience using MS Word, Excel, OMS.

Key Responsibilities

• Responsible for overseeing and optimization of the operations and functionality of the assigned sites, while promoting safety, sanitation, and security through ensuring that all awareness programs, meetings, inspections, and preventative measures required have been completed on time.
• Organize and analyze complex information and data.
• Develop strategic plans to further GFL Operational interests and ability to grow very busy and dynamic sites.
• Capable of quickly establishing credibility, influencing constituencies, and persuading professionals at all levels.
• Must be a self‑motivated contributing team member.
• Strong cost center management experience as part of their respective operational responsibilities and have a solid track record in providing positive results.
• Proficient understanding of Regulations impacting the various sites and operations, complete reporting on time, experience dealing with the local officals if required to do so.
• Manage multiple projects in a fast‑paced environment.
• Manage designated financial, human, and physical resources of the Division in a collaborative manner.
• Anticipate and manage conflict; mediate disputes; assist in reaching consensus.
• Manage the financial, human, and physical resources of the assigned sites in alignment with GFL’s vision and values and in accordance with the annual Business Plan, with a strong focus on Profit & Loss activities. Provide overall direction and co‑ordination of all employees under his/her jurisdiction, including hiring, training, managing performance, promotion and discipline, and recommendations for discharge in accordance with policy and practice.
• Provide guidance and direction to GFL Operations staff about waste processing and disposal policies, procedures and regulations.
• Responsible to oversee and guide Industrial waste processing and disposal operations at multiple sites in a way that increases flexibility of the sites and reduces bottlenecks and inefficiencies.
• High level of collaboration and interaction with outside sales force.
• Demonstrated skills in managing and developing personnel. Strong leadership skills, leading people in a functional organization.
• Responsible for guiding and supporting the Site Operations Managers in the preparation and oversight of tenders/quotations and reports for operating, security and maintenance works including design, setting specifications, preparing cost estimates, project management and commissioning.
• Develop short- and long‑term goals and operating procedures to achieve/maintain on‑going compliance of waste processing.
• Aligns individual performance goals and measures systematically, and consistently uses them to drive performance. Strong results orientation and a tireless work ethic with the emotional intelligence to know when to push harder and when to look for alternative approaches.
• Excellent analytical and strategic skills. Good business judgment and problem‑solving skills with solid economic, industry and competitive landscape insight.
• Must be able to work efficiently and independently as well as can direct other team members to complete the larger project.
• Must be willing to commit the necessary time and effort to complete work assignments and do a quality job.
• Demonstrates the ability to present ideas and information in a clear, concise, organized, and diplomatic manner; listen to others to respond effectively to ideas and questions.
