Job summary

MaineHealth seeks a Director of Quality for the Oncology Service Line to provide strategic leadership, oversight, and operational direction for quality, patient safety, accreditation, and performance improvement across the oncology programs.

The role partners with executive leadership, physicians, nursing leaders, pharmacists, and multidisciplinary teams to advance evidence-based, patient-centered cancer care and improve clinical outcomes within a comprehensive oncology quality program.

Qualifications

• Education: Degree in nursing, business or healthcare management; Master’s degree preferred.
• Three to five years of management experience with demonstrated leadership skills.
• Experience in quality performance improvement in a hospital setting; Cancer Registry or Oncology experience preferred.
• Knowledge of biology and medical practices as applied to cancer; knowledge of statistics and data analysis.

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic leadership for quality, patient safety, accreditation, clinical outcomes, regulatory compliance, and performance improvement across the Oncology Service Line.
• Collaborate with executive leadership, physicians, advanced practice providers, nursing leaders, pharmacists, and multidisciplinary teams to ensure delivery of high-quality, patient-centered cancer care.
• Develop and sustain a comprehensive oncology quality strategy aligned with accreditation standards and best practices; drive continuous improvement in outcomes and value-based care.

The Director of Quality, Oncology Service Line provides strategic leadership, oversight, and operational direction for quality, patient safety, accreditation, clinical outcomes, regulatory compliance, and performance improvement initiatives across the MaineHealth Oncology Service Line. This position partners closely with executive leadership, physicians, advanced practice providers, nursing leaders, pharmacists, and multidisciplinary teams to ensure the delivery of high-quality, evidence-based, equitable, and patient-centered cancer care.

The Director is responsible for developing, implementing, and sustaining a comprehensive oncology quality strategy that aligns with organizational priorities, national quality standards, accreditation requirements, and emerging best practices in oncology care. The role drives continuous improvement in clinical outcomes, patient experience, operational performance, safety, and value-based care while promoting a culture of accountability, transparency, innovation, and excellence.

This position reports to the Director of Ambulatory Services, Oncology Service Line and serves as a key advisor to service line leadership on quality performance, accreditation readiness, regulatory compliance, and oncology quality initiatives.

Summary:
The Director of Quality, Information, Research and Outcomes supervises the activities within MMC Oncology Information Services. This position provides information management support across all services areas of the MMC/MHCCN Oncology Program and is required to track, monitor and report quality indicators and outcomes established by the Oncology Management Team and the MMC Quality Council. The scope of MMC Oncology Information Services includes the MMC Network Registry. This Director will work collaboratively with the Oncology Management Team, the Oncology Work Groups, other MMC Departments and physician practices to achieve the goals and objectives in oncology's clinical strategic plan and to maintain standards for cancer program accreditation established by the Commission on Cancer and The American Society of Clinical Oncology. The Director of Quality, Information, Research and Outcomes is an Oncology Program liaison to MeHealth, the Maine Cancer Consortium, the Maine Cancer Registry, the American Cancer Society and the Cancer Community Center. The Director will work with relevant service line leadership to develop, implement and maintain a comprehensive oncology quality program. They will assist with the development of operational and strategic planning based on appropriate analytics and metrics to help monitor program performance. This Director will work collaboratively with the Oncology Management Team to identify opportunities for collaboration on regional and state levels on mutual goals and objectives for comprehensive cancer control.

Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)

1. Education: Degree in nursing, business or healthcare management. Master's degree preferred.
2. License/Certifications: N/A
3. Experience: Three - Five years management experience with demonstrated leadership skills. Experience in quality performance improvement in a hospital setting. Cancer Registry or Oncology experience preferred.
4. Knowledge of biological science normally acquired through graduation from a four year college university with a degree in biology, physiology or related field.
5. Knowledge of medical practices and procedures as applied to the diagnosis and treatment of cancer.
6. Knowledge of statistical research, data collecting methods and presentations.
7. Knowledge of computer hardware and software and their operations.
8. Ability to work independently and make decisions according to established guidelines.
9. Ability to formulate and implement policies, systems and procedures.
10. Ability to provide effective leadership and to plan, assign, direct and evaluate the work of subordinate employees.
11. Ability to carry out short and long term quality and performance improvement projects.
12. Ability to adhere to hospital and departmental rules pertaining to patient and physician confidentiality.

The pay range for this position is $97,177.60to $131,497.60per year.

Compensation for part-time positions isdeterminedon a prorated basis consistent with the scheduled hours and applicable full-time equivalent (FTE).
