Job description

Director, Office of Youth, Young Adult, and Family Life Ministries

This role is specifically designed for someone with a vocational calling to serve youth, young adults, and families. It is a great opportunity to develop young leaders and cultivate stronger faith-filled families within the Diocese, mobilizing people for mission and equipping them to live the call of the Church to evangelize the world.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  1. Consulting on parish-level opportunities for the development of young, Catholic leaders.
  2. Creating events within the diocesan community that would include leadership training, mentorship programming, and life skills workshops and/or retreats for youth.
Resources and Continuing Education
  1. Curating and creating resources for families as they navigate the challenges of contemporary life – may include training, workshops, counseling opportunities.
  2. Engaging pastors and parish ministry teams in building thriving ministries within parishes that meet the needs of youth, young adults, and families.
  3. Staying up to date with best practices and attending conferences and training to enhance professional development.
Collaboration and Mission Support
  1. Collaborating with clergy, religious communities, diocesan offices, campus ministries, parishes, and schools to ensure a cohesive approach to youth, young adult, and family ministry, while supporting a culture of missionary discipleship and personal vocation to serve God and the mystical body of Christ.
  2. Coordinating events and programs that span multiple aspects of church life.
  3. Building strong relationships with families and youth from diverse backgrounds, and ensuring that programs and services are inclusive and respectful of cultural differences.
  4. Takes the lead in the supervision, coordination, and staffing of all diocesan campus ministers in accompanying them in the pastoral care of students and their faith development over the course of their college career.
Community Outreach and Pastoral Care
  1. Developing and maintaining connections with community partners to engage with and support the wider community.
  2. Mobilizing pastoral care through ministries and apostolates to support individuals and families through transitions, such as pre-Cana/marriage prep, bereavement, divorce, or other crises.
Requirements:
  1. Practicing Roman Catholic; a Master’s Degree preferred in theology, pastoral ministry, youth ministry, or catechesis.
  2. Understanding and articulation of the Catholic Faith, so as to ensure that programs and activities align with Catholic beliefs, practices, and values.
  3. Possess an awareness of the diversity within our diocesan community, sensitivity to various cultural religious practices, and an adaptability to work in different cultural contexts. Bilingual – English/Spanish is a plus.
  4. Excellent organizational and communication skills, including the ability to utilize various forms of media, social media, and newsletters to keep the community informed across diverse backgrounds.
  5. Documented track record of developing young leaders.
  6. The ability to work both independently and within a team environment, having the ability to relate with pastors, lay ministers, youth, and young adults. This position requires energy, self-motivation, and a willingness to travel throughout the diocese, including some overnight, weekend, and evening work.
  7. Budget management, record keeping and reporting, and experience planning events.
Status:

Full-time (35 hours per week), including evening and weekend hours throughout the year especially for diocesan programs.
