The Director of Youth Sports and Wellness is responsible for the successful operation of the Youth Sports department, which includes program administration and development, fiscal management, staff administration and development, quality control, and volunteer recruitment.
Key responsibilities include strategic planning, relationship building, fundraising, and the growth of new programs. The Director will oversee the hiring and supervision of employees, train staff and volunteers, evaluate program effectiveness, manage budgets, and resolve issues that arise, all while adhering to YMCA core values. Collaboration with other departments is essential to achieve the Association’s goals. This position focuses strongly on youth sports for ages pre-K through 8th grade.
Bachelor’s Degree in physical education, sport management, human services, social services, recreation, business, or equivalent preferred.
3+ years of related experience in managing multiple program activities, program development and marketing, and fiscal management.
2+ years of experience in programming sports leagues, ideally basketball.
Strong experience in community basketball programming preferred.
Ability to assist in the direction of multi-site programs through supervision of staff, public relations, program development, and fundraising.
Excellent financial skills, including budget preparation and project management.
Outstanding communication skills, both written and verbal.
Strong time management and organizational skills.
Knowledge of quality program development and coordination of activities.
Ability to establish and maintain collaborations with community organizations.
Completion of YMCA Team Leader certification within 3 years.
Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
The employee needs sufficient strength, agility, and mobility to perform essential functions and safely supervise program activities in various indoor and outdoor locations.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use a computer for extended periods and communicate using a computer and phone/smart device.
The employee frequently needs to sit and reach and must be able to move around the work environment.
The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust.
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
