Job summary

International Justice Mission (IJM) seeks a Director of US Accounting & Operations to oversee accounting, payroll, tax filings, and internal controls for IJM’s US entities. The role reports to the Assistant Controller, Global Finance, and requires strong knowledge of US GAAP, IFRS, and nonprofit regulations.

The position is hybrid (onsite in the Washington, DC area on select days) or remote for non-local candidates, with a focus on leadership, financial integrity, and collaboration across global

Qualifications

• Licensed CPA or advanced degree in accounting preferred but not required.
• 8–10 years of experience as an accounting or audit manager, including five or more years in an international development environment and a minimum of three years supervising teams.
• Superior knowledge of US GAAP, IFRS and IRS regulations for 501(c)(3) organizations.
• Experience with electronic financial systems and Microsoft Excel or similar software packages.

Responsibilities

• Direct a team of accountants and payroll staff, maximizing collaboration and professional development.
• Lead month-end and year-end close and reporting for the US Accounting and Operations with all monthly balance sheet reconciliations.
• Oversee US statutory and tax filings including 403(b) audits, 1099, W-2, and state registrations for payroll.
• Support Form 990 tax filing and annual external audits.
• Coordinate with Global Finance and Finance leadership to ensure policy implementation and reporting accuracy.
