Your Role as Director of Transition Services
  • Strategic Leadership & Vision: Lead the development and execution of transition programming across the organization, ensuring alignment with IDEA, Section 504, and other relevant regulations while setting a clear vision for post-secondary success.
  • Program Oversight & Compliance: Oversee the creation and implementation of individualized transition plans within students’ IEPs, ensuring quality, consistency, and legal compliance; maintain readiness for audits and reviews related to transition services.
  • Team Supervision & Development: Supervise and mentor transition specialists, educators, and support staff, fostering a culture of excellence, collaboration, and continuous improvement through coaching and professional development.
  • Innovation & Best Practices: Provide strategic leadership and training on evidence-based transition practices, including age-appropriate transition assessments, student-led planning, career readiness, and self-advocacy; identify, implement, and monitor effective tools, assessments, and technology platforms (e.g., Transition Planning Inventory, PA Secondary Transition Toolkit, career interest surveys, person-centered planning tools).
  • Collaboration & Partnerships: Build and sustain partnerships with community organizations, vocational programs, employers, and post-secondary institutions to expand student opportunities; facilitate interagency collaboration to ensure seamless support for students transitioning into adulthood.
  • Family & Stakeholder Engagement: Serve as a key liaison between schools, families, and external agencies, promoting transparent and effective communication to support individualized graduation pathways and post-secondary goals.
  • Data-Driven Improvement: Monitor program effectiveness through data collection, analysis, and reporting; leverage transition indicators (e.g., Indicator 13 and Indicator 14) and other metrics to evaluate outcomes and drive continuous improvement.
  • Statewide Travel & Support: Travel to school locations across Pennsylvania to provide direct on-site support, oversight, and ensure fidelity of transition programming across the state.
Required Qualifications
  • Education & Credentials: Master’s degree in Special Education, Educational Leadership, Rehabilitation Counseling, or a related field required; active PA Instructional Special Education certification highly preferred.
  • Professional Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in special education, transition services, or related fields, with demonstrated expertise in program development and service delivery.
  • Leadership & Management: Minimum of 5 years in a supervisory or leadership role, with proven ability to mentor staff, oversee program implementation, and foster organizational growth.
  • Program Development & Impact: Demonstrated success in designing, leading, and scaling educational or community-based programs that drive measurable student outcomes and organizational effectiveness.
  • Location & Travel: This is a remote role with 75% travel. The ideal candidate will be local to the Central Pennsylvania area, preferably residing in Lancaster, Pennsylvania 17601.
