The Director of the Center for Global Education supports and facilitates the mission statement of the office: The Center for Global Education is responsible for advising and assisting international students with the transition of living and studying in the United States and assisting students in developing global opportunities such as study abroad and involvement in campus international activities. It is the mission of The Center for Global Education to enhance opportunities for global understanding through the exchange of students, scholars and faculty between Capital University and other countries. We affirm that international educational exchange can advance learning and scholarship, build respect and understanding among different people, and encourage responsible leadership.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • International Student Support and Immigration Advising: Directs and coordinates immigration advising, admission policies and procedures for students at all levels which are mandated by SEVIS, Oversees the ESL program, Coordinates orientation programs, cross-cultural activities, visiting scholars, and short-term programs here and abroad; Provides all admission (grad & undergrad) offices with list of required procedures for F-1 visa students for SEVIS); provides appropriate immigration admission documents (SEVIS); and facilitates appropriate orientation upon arrival; responsible for the university's SEVIS re-certification and serves as the Primary Designated School official. Advises the Global Student Association.
  • International Student Admission & Recruitment: Develops recruiting plans and directs recruitment activities as it relates to international students for undergraduate and ESL in consultation with deans, faculty and provost; supervises overseas recruitment and development of international relationships and partnerships; coordinates selection of person to do recruiting, including faculty; and performs appropriate follow-up procedures.
  • Supervises the evaluation of transcripts for ESL and undergraduate international admission; provides support for CON, SON, LAW, MBA, MED and MSW.
  • Study Abroad: Oversees developing, advising and creating study abroad opportunities, both short and long-term; Works one-on-one with students and employees to develop unique experiences; Monitors the mandatory guidelines for all programs. Supervises the use and maintenance of the Terra Dotta Study Abroad software. Directs and delivers presentations about international education at the University in a variety of settings both on and off-campus; Participates in admission and orientation activities that promote the University's international opportunities. Delivers pre-departure orientation programs.
  • Administrative: Prepares and manages operating budget. Identifies areas of additional revenue (short-term programs and seminars); Supervises the CGE staff and handles all personnel matters, including making hiring, performance and disciplinary decisions, as well as distributing and reviewing work for both professional and support staff; Serves on search committees, task forces and networks with faculty and administration to provide the international perspective for discussions; speaks at various functions and coordinates international and returning study abroad students' participation in various campus settings; Maintains active memberships in organizations with an international focus; takes leadership roles; serves on boards and planning commissions outside of the University which touch on international education and attends local, national and international functions; Oversees assessment planning and reporting for the CGE.
  • Student Success: Serve as a Student Success coach to a designated group of students as well as provide walk-in support for students in need.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree (M. A.) or equivalent required with a minimum five years' experience in international education at the university level.
  • Advanced knowledge of F-1 immigration policies and SEVIS reporting requirements. Proficient knowledge of the J-1 programs and policies. Experience advising student organizations.
  • Ability to understand, communicate with and effectively interact with people across cultures. Possesses a positive attitude towards cultural differences. Willing to gain knowledge of different cultural practices and world views.
  • To perform this job successfully, an individual should have excellent skills in the Microsoft suite of products, , proficient experience using the Terra Dotta Study Abroad Software platform; Canva and social media platforms.
  • Ability to respond effectively to the sensitive inquiries or complaints.

  • Ability to effectively present information to a wide range of constituents.
  • Ability to facilitate discussion groups and workshops; ability to coordinate events.

  • Ability to work closely and professionally with others as part of a team.
  • Ability to be flexible, pay attention to detail, work without supervision and demonstrate considerable initiative.
  • Ability work well with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • Manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines, establish departmental goals and priorities, contribute to Capital University's mission and vision.
