Job summary

Shasta Regional Medical Center is seeking a Director of Surgical Services to provide strategic, clinical, and operational leadership for OR, Pre-Op Services, Ambulatory Surgery, PACU, and SPD. Qualifications

• Current and valid state RN license.
• BLS (AHA) certification on hire and maintained.
• ACLS (AHA) certification on hire and maintained.
• At least two years of supervisory/management experience.
• At least two years of experience in Surgical Nursing.
• CNOR (AORN) certification on hire, preferred.
• BSN degree preferred.
• PALS (AHA) certification on hire and maintained.

Responsibilities

• Lead the daily operations of the OR, Pre-Operative Services, Ambulatory Surgery, PACU, and Sterile Processing departments.
• Develop, coach, and lead high-performing teams with accountability and collaboration.
• Partner with physicians, anesthesia providers, and executive leadership to optimize surgical operations and patient outcomes.
• Oversee staffing, scheduling, productivity, workforce planning, recruitment, and retention.
• Drive quality, patient safety, regulatory compliance, and performance improvement initiatives.
• Monitor operational, clinical, and financial performance including OR utilization, throughput, and patient experience.
• Manage departmental operating and capital budgets while optimizing labor, supplies, and equipment.
• Develop policies and remove barriers to improve efficiency, quality, and outcomes.

Job description

The Director of Surgical Services provides strategic, clinical, and operational leadership for the Operating Room (OR), Pre-Operative Services, Ambulatory Surgery, Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU), and Sterile Processing (SPD). This role is accountable for the overall performance of Surgical Services, ensuring the delivery of safe, high-quality, patient-centered care while advancing quality outcomes, patient safety, physician engagement, regulatory compliance, operational efficiency, employee development, and financial stewardship.

As a visible, hands-on leader, the Director partners with physicians, anesthesia providers, nursing leadership, and interdisciplinary teams to optimize surgical services, develop high-performing teams, and drive continuous improvement.

• Lead the daily operations of the OR, Pre-Op, Ambulatory Surgery, PACU, and Sterile Processing departments.

Education and Work Experience

• Current and valid state license as a Registered Nurse.
• Current BLS (AHA) certificate upon hire and maintain current.
• Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)-(AHA) certificate upon hire and maintain current.
• A minimum of two years supervisory/management experience necessary.
• At least two (2) years of experience in Surgical Nursing.
• Current Certified Nurse OR (CNOR) (AORN) certificate(s) upon hire, preferred.
• Bachelor's of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.

FACILITY SPECIFIC:

• Current PALS (AHA) Certificate upon hire and maintain current.
