• Create awareness about the Center with both internal and external audiences.
• Raise national and global visibility of the Center by representing the IMC at conferences and key industry events.
• Recruit and engage Investment Management thought leaders to deliver programs and enhance their engagement with students and alumni.
• Foster and deepen employer engagement in the Investment Management industry.
• Develop efficient and effective processes and planning initiatives across the IMC, which will serve as critical infrastructure as the IMC is reimagined and optimize the student and alumni experience.
• Participate in ongoing strategic planning activities and implement the strategic plan for the Center, in conjunction with the Faculty Director and the Executive Director.

Position Summary

This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement that may include a partially remote work location, consistent with System Office policy. UNC Chapel Hill employees are generally required to reside within a reasonable commuting distance of their assigned duty station.

The Center for Excellence in Investment Management ( IMC ) at the Kenan-Flagler Business School was founded in 2007. A recent major gift has allowed us to re-think the role of the Center and develop a new vision for bringing faculty, students and alumni together to enhance Kenan-Flagler’s leadership position among U.S. business schools in the investment management arena. This dynamic sector plays a pivotal role in the U.S. and global economies, and Kenan-Flagler, like other leading business schools, must ensure that its teaching, research, and industry engagement both meets the needs of the industry and helps shape its future. The Center has a comprehensive mission to support faculty, students and industry professionals in mutually reinforcing ways in support of this mandate.

To reach its full potential, the Center will need both increased management attention and substantial new investment. The new management structure will be anchored in the appointment of the Center’s first Executive Director, who will co-lead the Center together with the Faculty Director and the Director of Student and Alumni Engagement. In addition, this person will interface with an external Advisory Board composed of successful alumni and other prominent industry leaders who have held influential roles in investment management fields.

The Center will support the continuing growth of the Capital Markets and Investments ( CMI ) concentration. We aim to significantly expand the number of students taking the concentration in the coming years. In recent years, a meaningful share of students taking the CMI concentration have entered careers in investment management or private wealth management, and we would like to see that share continue to grow. Because the asset management industry is highly fragmented and specialized, we will need substantial resources at the Center to manage student career development and employer engagement. To meet these ambitious goals, the IMC is looking to hire a Director of Student and Alumni Engagement. The successful candidate in this position will oversee student experience from recruitment through career development and alumni relations for all UNC Kenan-Flagler programs (including but not limited to the MBA and BSBA programs).

Minimum Education And Experience Requirements

Master’s or Bachelor’s and 0-2 years’ experience; or will accept a combination of related education and experience in substitution.

Required Qualifications, Competencies, And Experience

• Candidates must have a passion for the Investment Management industry, knowledge of the business, and a genuine desire to work with students, alumni, and faculty.

Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, And Experience

• Experience in the Finance sector (investment management, capital markets, investment banking, sales and trading, or another relevant finance field).


• Experience in career services, educational programming, or higher education.

Campus Security Authority Responsibilities

This position is designated as a Campus Security Authority in accordance with the Clery Act. This position will be required to report Clery crimes to the Clery Compliance Manager and complete annual training about reporting responsibilities.
