RESPONSIBLE TO: Associate Pastor of Discipleship

St. Barnabas United Methodist Church is seeking a passionate, relational, and creative Director of Student Ministries to lead and grow our ministry with students in middle school, high school and college. We are looking for someone who loves Jesus, loves students, and is excited about creating a ministry where young people feel known, valued, welcomed, and empowered to live out their faith.

The Director of Student Ministries will provide vision, leadership, and coordination for all aspects of student ministry, helping students develop a growing relationship with Jesus Christ and a faith that extends beyond the church walls.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and lead a vibrant, welcoming, and Christ-centered ministry for middle and high school students.
• Plan and oversee weekly student gatherings, Bible studies, small groups, fellowship events, retreats, mission opportunities, and other special activities.
• Build authentic relationships with students and create an environment where they can ask questions, explore their faith, and experience belonging.
• Recruit, equip, support, and appreciate adult volunteers who serve alongside students.
• Partner with parents and families to support the spiritual growth and well-being of students.
• Collaborate with the pastors, children’s ministry, and other church staff to create a cohesive ministry from childhood through young adulthood.
• Encourage students to participate in worship and the broader life of St. Barnabas.
• Provide opportunities for students to serve others, engage in mission, develop leadership skills, and put their faith into action.
• Manage the student ministry calendar, programming, communication, and budget.
• Maintain a safe and healthy ministry environment in accordance with church policies and Ministry Safe requirements.

• Has a genuine and growing Christian faith and a passion for helping young people discover and live out their faith.
• Is relational, energetic, creative, organized, and dependable.
• Connects naturally with students and can communicate effectively with both youth and adults.
• Values questions, welcomes diverse perspectives, and creates space for students to grow in faith without fear of judgment.
• Is comfortable working collaboratively as part of a church staff and volunteer team.Has experience working with youth in a church, school, camp, nonprofit, or similar setting. Formal theological education is a plus but not required.
