This is a live-in (optional) position that manages the Office of Student Engagement. This includes the overall student engagement within the university, including major campus events and traditions (Move-In Day, Family Weekend, Thanksgiving, Winter Ball, Awards & Recognition Ceremonies, Club Life, Leadership Programs, Spring Weekend activities, Senior Week, Commencement, etc.). Day-to-day student development, services and programs to enhance the co-curricular student experience. Supervising both professional and student staff. If living on-campus, may serve in the on-call support to the professional staff providing crisis support via calls to the duty phone calls from residents. Upholds student engagement policies including social media oversight. Leading large-scale division-wide and university-wide programming as assigned. Responsible for on-call support to duty staff assigned to after-hours/weekend/holiday on-call duties to address campus emergencies.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the campus life student engagement experience. Leading student engagement and co-curricular programming for Campus Life & Student Affairs. Oversee traditional programming: Move-In Day, Family Weekend, Thanksgiving, Awards & Recognition Ceremonies, etc. Supervise professional staff managing traditions and events and participate as an on-site staff for programs: Winter Ball, Spring Weekend, Club Life, Student Leadership Development Programming, Senior Week, etc.
- Manage a budget for student programming. Work with staff on the Student Government-funded budget board (BOB) to ensure fiscal responsibility. Serve as Student Government (SG) Advisor - attend meetings and support SG programming including annual elections. Order and purchase programming supplies for events as needed. Provide assessment of community development activities and make appropriate recommendations to enhance services.
- Coordinate a leadership development program in collaboration with the Career Center and other Campus Life departments as designed. This program should be a semester or year-long experience and may possibly be a multi-year experience. Designed with intentional learning outcomes and assessment milestones.
- Manage student engagement policies, review practices, and coordinate engagement via student engagement software (The Path). Work in close collaboration with the Center for Civic Engagement on community service programs and diversity initiatives, tracking experiences. Oversee the cultural and identity-based theme-month programming on behalf of Campus Life.
- Work in close collaboration with other campus life directors to engage students across departments in co-curricular life: Career Center, Athletics, International Students & Scholars, Title IX, Religious Life, Counseling, Residence Life, Commuter Life, etc. Also, partner with schools in the area for bundle pricing and collaborative programming: Fairleigh Dickinson University, Saint Elizabeth University, and the County College of Morris.
- Work alongside campus partners to support Commencement activities. Collaborate on planning, logistics, and execution of Commencement.
- Supervises work of others, including planning, assigning, scheduling and reviewing work, ensuring quality standards. Is responsible for hiring, terminating, training and developing, reviewing performance and administering corrective action for staff or makes recommendations that are usually accepted. Plans organizational structure and job content.
- Supervises student workers on a regular basis.
- Responsible for Budget planning and preparation/development. Has authority to commit the University in matters with significant financial impact.
Required Qualifications:
- Master’s degree (MA) or equivalent; or four to ten years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience in Student Affairs or Higher Education.
