Job description

Most growth roles are sales seats. This one builds the entire growth engine — with a path to full partnership.

Construction Simplified exists to challenge traditional construction through better communication, transparency, and collaboration. We specialize in Owner's Representation, Construction Management, and Development Partner services, helping clients simplify complex projects while delivering exceptional quality, value, and long-term relationships.

We're leading the industry with education and transparency here in West Michigan while executing our plans for geographic expansion. Which means we're looking for people whose careers can grow alongside ours.

Why This Role Is Different

This isn't a sales seat. You'll own the firm's entire growth architecture — the strategy, the system, and the relationships that fuel a $150 million per-office model built to replicate across the country. You'll align Partners, Preconstruction, and Marketing around shared revenue goals, sit at the leadership table, and build the market presence that carries the firm into its next markets and next offices. Excel here, and full partnership is the destination.

Our vision is a firm controlled by its team, with limitless opportunity to build your own self-equity, choose your plateau, and create a legacy worth passing on.

The Work, Month to Month

Here's what the work actually looks like.

You run the firm's growth engine with discipline. You keep the pipeline healthy well ahead of revenue targets and drive every pursuit toward a clear decision — no stagnation, no hopeful speculation. You maintain multi-year backlog visibility, present regular pipeline reporting to leadership, and flag revenue gaps quarters before they arrive.

Externally, you're in the market: developing strategic relationships in our priority markets, listening first to understand what's really driving a client's project, and positioning Construction Simplified as the executive partner — not a commodity contractor. You run structured business development meetings, enforce disciplined Go/No-Go standards, keep the CRM honest, and lead qualified opportunities through proposal, alignment, and negotiation to contract.

What You'll Own
Build the Growth Engine
  • Design, manage, and continually refine the growth system that supports the $150M per-office revenue model — pipeline coverage, close-rate discipline, backlog pacing, and multi-year revenue visibility
  • Keep the forecast honest: documented probability, decision dates, and budget confirmation on every qualified opportunity — evidence over optimism, always
  • Identify revenue gaps well in advance and adjust strategy before they become problems
  • Deliver disciplined pipeline and backlog reporting to leadership, backed by an accurate CRM
Own the Market Strategy
  • Build written annual growth plans for each of our priority markets, with tiered target client lists refined quarterly
  • Actively develop relationships through direct meetings, events, and strategic outreach — then qualify hard before anything advances
  • Enforce structured Go/No-Go standards so only aligned, viable pursuits move forward
  • Craft creative entry strategies for emerging markets like advanced manufacturing and health sciences
Lead Every Pursuit
  • Set the strategy for every qualified opportunity — client objectives, decision structure, competitive positioning — and drive it forward with professional persistence
  • Oversee proposals with Partners, Preconstruction, and Marketing that win on value and executive oversight — never price competition
  • Participate in scope and fee negotiations alongside firm leadership, then convert wins into clean backlog entries and honest debriefs
Represent Construction Simplified
  • Unite Partners, Preconstruction, and Marketing around shared growth objectives
  • Represent the firm at industry events and in thought leadership with executive presence — every interaction builds long-term brand equity
  • Model integrity, disciplined decision-making, and ownership in every pursuit
What You'll Bring
  • Deep knowledge of construction and development markets — capital cycles, client motivations, and the business forces that drive project timing
  • Advanced relational intelligence: you read people and decision dynamics, listen first, and build trust-based relationships that outlast any single project
  • Proven command of pipeline management, evidence-based forecasting, and disciplined opportunity qualification
  • Executive presence and cross-functional leadership — the maturity to influence Partners and leadership as credibly as you engage clients
  • Clear, proactive communication with clients, capital partners, design teams, and internal teams
  • Proficiency with CRM platforms and Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
What We Offer
  • Competitive salary based on your experience and demonstrated skills
  • Four weeks of paid time off — vacation, personal, and sick
  • Competitive health and wellness benefits
  • 401(k) with company match
  • Company vehicle or vehicle allowance
  • Opportunity for advanced education and certifications to enhance skills and expertise are encouraged to be pursued
  • Bonus compensation earned against a defined annual scorecard, with advancement that follows strong performance
  • A culture built on awareness, teamwork, and genuine investment in your growth — with advancement that's intentional, not accidental
How Success is Measured

We believe great performers deserve clear targets — so the Director of Strategic Growth works from a defined scorecard, reviewed annually, that weighs how you work as much as what you deliver: 25% living our values, 25% core competencies, 50% role‑specific results. A few examples of what good looks like:

  • Revenue that lands — contracted revenue aligned with the firm's growth model and the next year's work secured well ahead of schedule
  • A disciplined pipeline — healthy opportunity coverage, strong close rates, and no pursuit left stagnant
  • A forecast leadership trusts — multi-year backlog visibility and reporting that surfaces pacing gaps quarters early
  • Growing markets — written annual plans for every priority market, with target lists and qualified lead volume growing year over year
  • Respected leadership — peer and client recognition for living the mission and elevating everyone around you

You’ll see the full scorecard — including the specific metrics behind it — during the interview process. No surprises, ever. Goals are set together using SMART criteria, so you always know where you stand and what’s next.

How We Show Up
  • Passionate Construction Professionals — We engage clients to understand the real business challenges behind their projects — and take pride in the growth system we build.
  • Ambitious Hustle, Achieving Goals — Self-starters with endless drive. Relentless follow-up, and pursuits driven to clear decisions — never stagnation.
  • Instinctive Collaborators — Growth is a team sport: Partners, Preconstruction, and Marketing aligned early on every pursuit.
  • Continuous Improvement Attitude — Forecast models, funnel stages, and market strategies get sharper every quarter.
  • Creative Problem Solvers — When a pursuit stalls, we find the alternate path — new channels, new introductions, new positioning.
  • Think Like an Owner — Every opportunity is weighed for long‑term fit with the firm's growth model, not just next quarter's revenue.
Think This Might Be You?

Construction Simplified was built to change the construction industry while creating limitless opportunities for people who want more — for their careers, their families, and their futures.

If you're ready to build a growth engine — not just work a territory — with real ownership, real influence, and a genuine path to partnership, we'd love to meet you.
