Job summary

The New Museum is seeking a Special Events Director in New York, NY to shape and execute a growing events strategy with a target around 1.6M. You will lead rentals, manage budgets and a staff, and work across departments to deliver high-impact programs that align with the Museum’s mission.

This role requires evenings, weekends, and early mornings as part of a non-traditional schedule. Reporting to the Vice President of Advancement, you will drive revenue, cultivate corporate partnerships, and

Qualifications

• 12+ years of experience in event sales/venue rentals, event production, or hospitality-related fields.
• Outstanding organizational, communication, project management, and client relationship skills.
• Experience preparing and managing budgets and financial reports.
• Ability to work independently on several events simultaneously.
• Demonstrated success in marketing and sales.
• Experience managing staff; familiarity with a unionized environment preferred.
• Availability to work evenings, weekends, and early mornings.

Responsibilities

• Lead event rentals from lead generation through contract negotiation, execution and follow-up.
• Produce 50+ annual Special Events onsite with cross-department collaboration.
• Manage production schedules, vendors, staffing, and onsite execution.
• Coordinate with Security, Education, Development, and Operations to achieve goals.
• Secure brand partnerships to support guest hospitality and programs.
