Job summary

Block Engineering, LLC. in Southborough, MA is seeking a Director of Software Engineering to lead our embedded software efforts.

We are looking for a hands-on manager who codes and also guides design and architecture while managing a team of contributors. Responsibilities include C/C++ and Python development in embedded Linux on ARM-based devices, leading AI tooling integration, and maintaining code infrastructure and documentation with GitHub/Jira.

Qualifications

• BS degree in Computer Science/Engineering or Electrical Engineering.
• 5+ years as lead contributor or manager of a development team.
• Experience using AI tools such as Cursor, Codex, Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, etc.
• Capacity to develop build and delivery infrastructure (GitHub Actions, Docker, etc.).
• Experience with FPGA programming (VHDL/Verilog) and/or analytic instruments is a plus.
• Ability to collaborate with people at all levels and strong communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Hands-on development of software in C/C++ for embedded environments.
• Lead integration of AI development tools and technologies.
• Manage code infrastructure and documentation on GitHub and Jira.
• Ensure on-time delivery with design docs, reference materials and tests.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to design, build and test new solutions.
• Ensure code consistency and deliver software for hardware control and algorithms.
