Job summary

Lantern Community Services seeks a Shelter Director to provide leadership and oversight of day-to-day shelter operations at Laurel Hall in Queens. The role ensures safety, stability, and well-being for male residents through compliant service delivery and staff supervision.

The ideal candidate will have an MSW or related master's degree and at least five years of DHS shelter supervisory experience, with strong data use, leadership, and bilingual communication (English/Spanish) preferred.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Social Work, Mental Health Counseling, Marriage and Family Therapy, Public Health or Public Administration or related field.
• Minimum of 5 years of DHS shelter supervisory experience.
• Experience with electronic case management systems and data-driven outcomes.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and familiarity with CARES database.

Responsibilities

• Hire, supervise, and develop a high-performing shelter team with accountability for client outcomes and compliance with Lantern and funder requirements.
• Provide leadership and support to staff to meet operational goals and performance benchmarks.
• Conduct regular supervision, evaluations, and progressive discipline as needed.
• Oversee all aspects of shelter operations including service delivery, case management, housing and employment targets, programming, security, and supply management.
• Develop and implement program activities that support residents’ stability and readiness for housing.
