Discription



The Director of Safety, Security, and Environmental Compliance is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing a comprehensive safety, security, and environmental compliance program that ensures the protection and well-being of students, employees, and visitors across all ACPS buildings and grounds. This role involves strategic planning, policy development, compliance monitoring, emergency preparedness, risk management, and environmental safety initiatives, including Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) compliance. This position is designated as an Essential Employee.



The position reports to the Executive Director of Support Operations.



Qualifications:


Education: Bachelor's degree required, preferably in engineering, facilities and operations, occupational health and safety, law enforcement, criminal justice, risk management, or related fields. A Master's degree is preferred.


Experience: Minimum of 10 years in a multi-location organization with decentralized operations. Experience in training, managing security and emergency preparedness programs, and familiarity with school environments is preferred. Security or law enforcement experience of ten (10) years is also preferred. Knowledge of school maintenance, facilities management, occupational health and safety laws, and regulations is essential.


Certifications/Licenses:


  • Related FEMA Emergency Management certificates or courses preferred.
  • Current First Aid and CPR certification.

Essential Functions:


  • Program Management: Oversee health, safety, and security programs, ensuring compliance with relevant acts like the Safe Schools Act.
  • Lead security staff and coordinate system-wide security measures, including personnel, surveillance, and physical security.
  • Oversee environmental health, occupational safety, and related compliance, including assessments, training, and inspections.
  • Manage life-safety systems such as alarms, elevators, and sprinkler systems.
  • Develop and implement school safety and active violence training programs.
  • Coordinate emergency response efforts, drills, and relationships with local emergency services.
  • Develop traffic and parking management plans.

Administration:


  • Serve as liaison with law enforcement and ensure compliance with safety laws.
  • Investigate incidents and develop safety procedures.
  • Review security and emergency plans, prepare reports, and manage budgets.

Management:


  • Represent ACPS on safety boards, oversee emergency plans, and serve as incident commander if needed.

Technology:


  • Manage access control systems, surveillance, and communication networks.

Training:


  • Provide safety training and develop emergency preparedness programs.

Other Duties:


  • Report to the School Board, maintain relationships, analyze laws, and serve on city committees.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:


  • Proficiency with internet, social media, security software, MS Office, and report writing.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work in diverse environments.
  • Ability to serve as an essential employee on a 24/7 basis.
