Job summary

A-1 Electrical Contractors, Inc. is seeking a Director of Safety to develop, implement, and administer the company’s safety and health programs. This role ensures compliance with OSHA, NFPA 70E, NEC, and related standards across electrical construction projects.

The position requires leading safety initiatives, conducting audits, investigating incidents, and delivering training while coordinating with project teams and management. Candidates must be capable of travel and pass background checks.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in construction safety management.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of OSHA 1926 regulations and NFPA 70E safety standards, with working familiarity with the NEC.
  • OSHA 30-Hour Construction Certification required.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills for influencing safety behaviors.
  • Ability to travel to various job sites and comply with background checks.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain safety policies, procedures, and programs per OSHA/NFPA/NEC standards.
  • Conduct regular safety inspections and audits on job sites; monitor subcontractor compliance.
  • Lead investigations of accidents and near-misses; prepare reports and track corrective actions.
  • Coordinate safety training and toolbox talks; promote safety culture across teams.
  • Collaborate with project managers on JSAs, lockout/tagout, arc flash, grounding, and PPE compliance.
  • Maintain training logs, inspection records, and regulatory responses.

A-1 Electrical Contractors, Inc. is seeking a Director of Safety to develop, implement, and administer the company's safety and health programs and ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations. The Director of Safety maintains a safe work environment for employees, subcontractors, and visitors, and works closely with management and field leadership to proactively identify risks and ensure safe work practices are followed on all electrical construction projects.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Safety Programs and Compliance: Develop, implement, and maintain the company's safety policies, procedures, and programs in accordance with OSHA, NFPA 70E, the NEC, and other applicable safety standards.
  • Inspections and Audits: Conduct regular job site safety inspections and audits to identify hazards and unsafe practices, recommend corrective actions, and monitor subcontractor activities for compliance with company and project-specific safety requirements.
  • Incident Investigation: Lead investigations of all accidents, incidents, and near-misses, prepare detailed reports, and track corrective actions to completion.
  • Training and Safety Culture: Coordinate and deliver new hire orientation, toolbox talks, and task-specific training, and reinforce a culture of safety through communication, coaching, and recognition programs.
  • Project Safety Planning: Work with project managers and foremen on job-specific safety plans, Job Safety Analyses (JSAs), and lockout/tagout procedures, and ensure electrical safety protocols including arc flash protection, grounding, and PPE compliance are followed on every job site.
  • Documentation and Regulatory Response: Maintain training logs, inspection reports, and incident records in compliance with company and regulatory requirements, and serve as the company's representative during OSHA inspections, coordinating responses to any citations or violations.
  • Analysis and Continuous Improvement: Analyze safety metrics and trends to recommend improvements in processes, training, and hazard prevention. Perform additional duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in construction safety management, preferably within the electrical contracting industry. High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of OSHA 1926 regulations and NFPA 70E safety standards, with working familiarity with the National Electrical Code. OSHA 30-Hour Construction Certification required.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to influence positive safety behaviors at all levels of the organization and to collaborate effectively with team members, management, and clients while adhering to company policies.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs and safety management software, and the ability to travel to various job sites as required.
  • Must comply with a criminal background check and drug test.
  • Preferred: Additional safety credentials such as CHST, COSS, or COSM, and an OSHA 500/510 credential.
POSITION AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Split between the office and active construction sites, with regular travel between job sites. Regular attendance is an essential function.
  • Ability to walk, stand, and climb for extended periods, navigate uneven or rough terrain, and lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Tolerance for outdoor working conditions including heat, cold, and inclement weather, and exposure to construction sites and equipment noise and vibration.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
  • Negotiable based upon experience, with bi-annual performance awards, medical, dental, vision, and supplemental insurance, paid time off, and 401k matching.
