Job Description: The Director of Resident Risk position is a member of the Legal Department and is responsible for representing the organization on a variety of legal matters as assigned. This position will provide meaningful contributions to the Risk Management team as well providing legal counsel to operations and field leadership on a variety of legal concerns.

Responsibilities:

  • Provides research, analysis, counsel and guidance on a variety of legal issues and acts as a primary point of contact for operational legal support to field operations. Assists with plans of correction, interpretation of company policies and state regulations, and guidance to field operations whenreportable events occur.
  • Manages the discharge process for communities through drafting of discharge letters, negotiating settlements and working with local counsel on evictions.
  • Researches and analyzes regulations and communicates the potential impact of regulatory changes to company stakeholders.
  • Reviews and revises policies as appropriate, including collaborating with other departments.
  • Collaborates with public relations and marketing teams on communications and talking points.
  • Negotiates settlements with third parties, including residents and/or families.
  • Assists in the defense of claims and litigation engaging in the discovery process, manages outside counsel and works closely with internal and external clients to resolve community legal issues.
  • Manages insurance claims reporting process.
  • Reviews, submits and approves billing for litigation matters.
  • Prepares litigation reports for strategic partners.
  • Reviews medical record requests and prepares records for release.
  • Identifies areas of risk for the company and advises Risk Management team and other stakeholders as well as providing company updates on risk management initiatives.

Qualifications:

  • Four + years of related, demonstrated experience including personal injury, medical malpractice or insurance defense experience with preference for experience within long-term care/senior living.
  • Juris Doctorate Degree.
  • Statelicensure in good standing.
  • Remote.
