Job summary

Laurel Oaks Behavioral Health Center, a 118-bed acute psychiatric hospital and residential treatment center, seeks a Director of Recreation/Activity Therapy in Alabama. The role plans and implements recreation services, defines treatment goals, and participates as part of the interdisciplinary treatment team to deliver patient care.

The position requires a Bachelor's degree, CTRS certification, and 3–5 years of related psychiatric care experience; a Master's degree is preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred in Recreation Therapy or related field.
• CTRS certification/licensure required by state/national body.
• Three to five years of related experience in psychiatric patient care preferred.

Responsibilities

• Plan and implement recreation/leisure services for the assigned program.
• Define and implement treatment goals as a member of the interdisciplinary treatment team.
• Provide continuous patient care, observation, interaction and role modeling to patients.

Laurel Oaks Behavioral Health Center is a 118 bed Acute Psychiatric Hospital and Residential Treatment Center for children and adolescents ages four through eighteen. The 55,000 square foot facility is situated on approximately 10 acres in the southeast corner of Alabama, less than 20 miles from both Florida and Georgia. In addition to the living units, the facility houses the New Day Academy; a state-supported year-round K-12th grade school with vocational opportunities. The hospital employs approximately 195 staff members.

Laurel Oaks is currently seeking a Director of Recreation/Activity Therapy. The Director of Recreation/Activity Therapy is Responsible for planning and implementing recreation/leisure services for assigned program, which involves defining and implementing treatment goals as a member of the interdisciplinary treatment team and providing continuous patient care, observation, interaction, and role modeling to patients.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university, required; Masters Degree preferred in Recreational Therapy, Fine Art, Music, or Expressive Therapy.
• Three to five years of related experience, with knowledge of psychiatric patient care techniques with an understanding of mental illness, preferred.
• Certification, Licensure, and/or Board Certification by state and/or national governing body in Recreation Therapy required. CTRS required
