Job summary

Cosm is seeking a Director of Software Engineering to lead the real-time video, media processing, and distributed technology platforms. This role drives technical and organizational leadership across teams delivering mission-critical systems for Cosm's venues, broadcasts, partners, and streaming experiences.

You will mentor senior leaders, establish technical direction, optimize development processes, and translate business goals into scalable software solutions, ensuring reliable execution

Qualifications

• 10+ years of professional software engineering experience, including 5+ years in management.
• Proven success building and retaining high-performing software teams.
• Strong architectural direction and technical decision-making.
• Experience with distributed, real-time, high-performance systems.
• Fluency across multiple languages and modern stacks; AWS, CI/CD, DevOps.

Responsibilities

• Lead, manage, and develop software engineering teams responsible for real-time video, media processing, distributed systems, cloud services, and supporting technology platforms.
• Build and scale a high-performing engineering organization through hiring, coaching, career development, performance management, and development of engineers and technical leaders.
• Establish clear engineering priorities, ownership, and accountability while aligning team roadmaps and execution with broader objectives.
• Partner with senior technical leaders to establish architectural direction ensuring scalable, reliable, performant, secure, and maintainable solutions.
• Work with Product, Broadcast Engineering, Operations, and cross-functional leaders to translate business requirements into executable roadmaps.
• Own engineering execution across the software development lifecycle, including planning, architecture, development, testing, deployment, observability, and incident response.
• Establish and improve engineering standards around code quality, architecture reviews, CI/CD, documentation, testing, and release management.
• Balance near-term delivery with long-term investments in architecture, debt reduction, and platform scalability.
• Drive a culture of technical excellence, experimentation, and innovation with clear tradeoffs and business rationale.
• Communicate engineering strategy, tradeoffs, risks, and resource needs clearly to leadership.
