Job summary

AMS Group, Inc. Torrance Operations facility is seeking a Quality Manager to lead the site quality organization and drive continuous improvement in aviation and defense manufacturing.

You will oversee in-process, receiving, final, testing and source inspections, manage non-conformances, and coordinate with engineering to ensure corrective actions and successful audits. Strong leadership and QMS experience are required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in business/management, supply chain, engineering, or related field.
• Minimum five years in manufacturing with aviation/defense quality experience.

Responsibilities

• Support AMS quality strategy and initiatives at Torrance Operations facility.
• Oversee inspections for approval or non-conformances; apply root-cause analysis.
• Manage Torrance customer complaints; verify validity and rework if needed.
• Collaborate with engineering and operations to approve recovery plans.
• Maintain Quality Issue Log; report in PMR meetings.
• Oversee calibration of measurement devices and calibration schedules.
• Ensure QMS processes, procedures, and work instructions are maintained and improved.
• Manage CAR root-cause process and assist 3rd party audits.
• Complete customer quality forms for registrations to support new business.
• Support quality certifications through 3rd party registrations and compliance.
• Support various quality activities: first article inspections, supplier/source inspections.
• Lead quality team at Torrance; promote development and productivity.
• Evaluate performance via data/metrics; communicate across organization.
• Ensure open communication across all levels.

Job description

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

• Support AMS Group, Inc (“AMS”) company-wide quality strategy and initiatives primarily at Torrance Operations facility focused on aviation and defense manufacturing, and across other AMS subsidiaries as needed.
• Oversee in-process, receiving, final, testing (as applicable) and source inspections of supplier and customer orders for approval or identification of non-conformances at the Torrance Operations facility. If identified as a non-conforming product, apply problem solving methodologies (e.g. 5WHY; IS-IS Not; Fishbone; etc.) and manage the quality process lifecycle to identify the non-conformance root cause and action to prevent its recurrence.
• Manage Torrance Operations facility customer complaints by verifying complaint validity and the associated process lifecycle to rework or replace the product if determined to be non-conforming.
• Work collaboratively with engineering and operations stakeholders to review, approve and perform oversight of recovery plans to deliver conforming products.
• Maintain Torrance Operations facility Quality Issue Log and brief status in recurring monthly Program Management Review meetings.
• Oversee maintenance and calibration of measurement devices at the Torrance Operations facility and ensure that calibration schedules are maintained for accuracy and compliance.
• Ensure that AMS Quality Management System (“QMS”) processes, procedures, and work instructions specific to the Torrance Operations facility are maintained and continuous improvement is implemented for employees to successfully deliver quality products and services to customers. Manage QMS Corrective Action (“CAR”) root cause process. Perform and manage internal quality audits at the Torrance Operations facility and support the Director of Quality for 3rd party audits at this facility.
• Complete customer solicited quality related forms to support Torrance Operations facility registrations to support new business opportunities.
• Support management of Torrance Operations facility associated quality certifications through accredited 3rd party quality management system registrations and standards compliance.
• Support various customer and supplier quality functional activities such as first article inspections, supplier audits, supplier source inspections, etc. (estimated <25 percent of annual work effort).
• Lead quality team located at Torrance Operations facility; promote team building and create professional and technical skill development/systems thinking to achieve maximum employee productivity and engagement.
• Evaluate organizational, customer and supplier performance by analyzing and interpreting data and metrics.
• Ensure effective and open communication of information within and across all levels of the organization.

• Knowledge of Microsoft Office programs such as Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook.
• Experience with quality auditing and management of quality audits.
• Familiar with corrective actions and problem-solving tools such as 5why, Fishbone, Is-Is Not, Fault Tree Analysis, and Cause Mapping.
• Experience working with customers and solving quality issues.
• Ability to work through challenging situations with customers and suppliers including conflict resolution.
• Ability to read and interpret manufacturing drawings and associated technical data package documentation including test procedures.
• Ability to perform First Articles and AS9102 Aerospace First Article Inspection Requirements.
• Knowledge and application of Foreign Object Debris (“FOD”), Counterfeit, Electrostatic Discharge (“ESD”) and other product risk mitigation standards.
• Direct experience with inspections of product and use of various measurement devices such Coordinate Measuring Machine (“CMMs”), calipers, micrometers, pin gages, optical comparators, etc.

Preferred Capabilities

• Experience with use of Statistical Process Control (“SPC”), and other statistical tools.
• Experience with AS9145 Advanced Product Quality Planning (“APQP”).
• Green or black Six Sigma Greenbelt certification.
• Experience with aviation industries standards for FOD, ESD, Counterfeit Mitigation, etc.
• IPC-A-610 (Acceptability of Electronic Assemblies)
• J-STD-001 (Requirements for Soldered Electrical and Electronic Assemblies)
• IPC/WHMA-A-620 (Cable and Wire Harness Assemblies)

Requirements

WORK EXPERIENCE / EDUCATION

Minimum of a four-year bachelor’s degree (BA or BS) from an accredited college or university in business/management, supply chain, engineering or other related degree.

Minimum of five (5) years of work experience in manufacturing, with specific aviation and defense quality manufacturing experience.
