Qualifications

  • Strong grasp of Medicaid and community behavioral health systems.
  • Experience managing documentation and billing processes in EHR systems.

Base pay range

Vivia Health is seeking a Director of Behavioral Health Services to oversee the clinical operations of our community mental health center. This is a unique leadership opportunity for someone who is both clinically savvy and operationally sharp—someone who can support staff development, maintain compliance, and ensure compassionate, coordinated care across therapy, case management, psychiatry, and nursing.

What You’ll Do

Lead Clinical Excellence

  • Supervise a multidisciplinary team of therapists and service staff
  • Review and approve treatment plans, therapy documentation, and encounter notes
  • Sign off on therapy sessions in AthenaOne to ensure clinical and billing accuracy
  • Monitor individual and team productivity

Drive Performance & Accountability

  • Conduct performance reviews based on client satisfaction, documentation, outcomes, and billing accuracy
  • Offer coaching, feedback, and PIPs to support staff development
  • Make recommendations for promotions, hires, and other employment actions

Grow a High-Impact Team

  • Facilitate weekly team meetings, case consultations, and skill-building sessions
  • Champion evidence-based practices like CBT, DBT, and trauma-informed care
  • Ensure collaboration between therapy, psychiatry, case management, and admin teams

Oversee Case Management Operations

  • Supervise the Case Management Lead and monitor department metrics
  • Ensure timely IM+CANS assessments, Medicaid applications, and referrals
  • Align service delivery with wraparound supports (housing, jobs, primary care, etc.)

Coordinate Day-to-Day Clinical Flow

  • Oversee staff schedules, clinic coverage, and patient assignments
  • Monitor calendars to maintain balanced workloads and responsive care
  • Collaborate with intake and outreach teams to maintain substantial census numbers

Ensure Compliance & Billing Integrity

  • Audit case notes for completeness, consistency, and alignment with billing codes
  • Ensure accurate documentation of services and appropriate use of clinical minutes
  • Support staff in meeting monthly productivity benchmarks and navigating payer guidelines

Education & Licensure

️ Master’s degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, or related field

️ LCSW, LCPC, PhD, or similar independent license required

Experience

️ 5–7 years in mental health; 5+ years of clinical supervision

️ Strong grasp of Medicaid, IM+CANS, and community behavioral health systems

️ Proficient in crisis response, clinical assessment, and trauma-informed leadership

️ Experience managing documentation and billing processes in EHR systems (AthenaOne preferred)

  • Work across 4 locations in Chicago (3 clinics + 1 office)
  • Office-based, telehealth, and community-based components
  • Occasional evenings/weekends for supervision or urgent needs
