Summary

Strategic Supply Management (SSM) supports New York Power Authority (NYPA), New York State Canals Corporation, New York Renewables Department (NYRED) and the organizations Renewed VISION2030 by providing safe, risk averse, cost effective and timely contracts. Upholds the organizations Values, Ethics, and Guidelines and enables the organization to achieve its goals by being a strategic partner to our business stakeholders.

The Category Management pillar supports the business to procure the goods and services needed while improving total cost of ownership, driving opportunities to increase diversity spending, identifying, and implementing new efficiencies in partnership with our suppliers, and acting as a steward of NYPA's procurement Guidelines. This position will require the Director to develop and implement a strategic approach to organizing procurement resources to focus on specific categories such as Consulting Services, Contingent Staff, Training, Financial, Architectural & Engineering as well as Technical Services based on market analysis and demand forecasting. Includes category plans, strategic sourcing, managing specific categories supplier contract performance, and process improvements with suppliers. Manages or performs work associated with coordinating, negotiating, and administering procurement proposals, bids, and contracts with suppliers/vendors. #LI-VB1

Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement comprehensive sourcing strategies across all functions in NYPA, including identifying and evaluating potential suppliers to meet organizational needs and objectives.
  • Conduct structured negotiations and manage contracting processes with suppliers.
  • Oversee day-to-day relationships with suppliers, ensuring performance metrics are met and contractual obligations are fulfilled.
  • Conduct thorough market intelligence, perform detailed analysis and benchmarking to identify cost-saving opportunities and enhance value delivery from suppliers.
  • Develop and implement risk management strategies and mitigation plans to ensure business continuity and supplier reliability while minimizing impact on the organization.
  • Work collaboratively with NYPA's senior management and business unit leaders, fostering strong partnerships with internal stakeholders to understand business needs and plan sourcing strategies accordingly.
  • Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) for supplier performance and sourcing activities, while continuously evaluating and improve sourcing processes.
  • Manage a team of professionals, set goals and expectations for achievement of operational results.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Proven experience in conducting market intelligence, analysis, benchmarking, and risk assessment.
  • Strong negotiation, contracting, and supplier relationship management skills.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with senior management and cross-functional teams.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Proficiency in sourcing and procurement software and tools.
  • Knowledge of industry best practices and trends in strategic sourcing and supplier management.
  • Strong leadership skills and ability to set clear objectives.
Education, Experience and Certifications
  • Bachelor's degree in business management, Information Management, or similar is required.
  • Minimum 7 years of experience in Strategic Sourcing and/or Supplier Relationship Management preferred.
  • Minimum 3 or more years of experience leading a team.
  • Experience in the utilities industry preferred.

The New York Power Authority is committed to providing fair, competitive, and market-informed compensation. The estimated salary range for this position is: $157,000 - $215,600. The salary offered will be determined based on the successful candidates' relevant experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities.
