About the Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced Director of Product Design to lead and scale a growing Product Design organization supporting a significant digital transformation. This newly created leadership role will oversee Product Design across a portfolio that includes a large-scale customer-facing website, native mobile application, and internal digital products. The Director will lead a growing team of Product Designers while establishing the design practices, systems, processes, and capacity planning needed to deliver high-quality digital experiences at scale. This is a design leadership role, not a hands-on production design position. The ideal candidate has progressed from Product/UX Design into people and organizational leadership while maintaining the design expertise and Figma proficiency necessary to review work, lead critiques, coach designers, and provide informed design direction. The Director will partner closely with Product, Engineering, UX Research, Marketing Technology, Creative, and business leadership to establish priorities, improve execution, align resources, and scale the Product Design function.
What You'll Do
- Lead, coach, and develop a growing team of Product Designers.
- Provide design leadership across web, native mobile, and internal digital products.
- Guide design strategy and user experience for major website and mobile application initiatives.
- Establish scalable design processes, operating rhythms, design critiques, and quality standards.
- Use Figma to review design work, lead critiques, provide actionable feedback, and ensure quality and consistency across digital products.
- Partner with Product and Engineering to scope initiatives, prioritize work, forecast capacity, and align design resources with product roadmaps.
- Guide the development and adoption of design systems that improve consistency, scalability, quality, and efficiency.
- Partner with UX Research to incorporate customer insights and usability findings into product and design decisions.
- Lead resource and capacity planning and identify future staffing needs as the product portfolio grows.
- Resolve competing priorities, cross-functional dependencies, resource constraints, and design challenges.
- Help shape the long-term vision, structure, operating model, and capabilities of the Product Design organization.
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor's degree in Design, Product Management, Business, or a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
- 10+ years of relevant Product Design/UX experience, including 3+ years of people management or organizational leadership.
- Strong Product Design foundation with demonstrated progression from hands-on design into design leadership.
- Experience leading, coaching, and developing Product Designers within a digital product organization.
- Strong understanding of web and mobile product design, UX principles, and customer-centered design.
- Strong working proficiency with Figma is required. Candidates must be comfortable navigating Figma, reviewing product-design work, leading design critiques, evaluating quality and consistency, and providing meaningful feedback and direction to designers.
- Deep knowledge of design systems and how they support product quality, consistency, scalability, and Design/Engineering efficiency.
- Experience partnering closely with Product Management and Engineering in Agile/Scrum product development environments.
- Experience with resource planning, capacity forecasting, prioritization, and organizational scaling.
- Understanding of UX research methodologies and how research informs effective design decisions.
- Strong collaboration, negotiation, consensus-building, communication, and decision-making skills.
- Ability to thrive in a high-growth, evolving environment where teams and processes continue to mature.
- Ability to work onsite Monday-Friday in Arlington, TX.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience building, scaling, or transforming a Product Design team or organization.
- Experience establishing or evolving design systems and Product Design operating practices.
- Experience supporting large-scale website modernization, native mobile application development, or enterprise digital transformation initiatives.
- Experience working across multiple digital products, complex customer journeys, or large-scale digital ecosystems.
- Portfolio or examples of previous design work demonstrating depth and progression in Product Design.
- PMP, Certified ScrumMaster (CSM), or comparable certification is a plus.
