Job summary

Morningstar, Inc. seeks a Director of Procurement within Corporate Services to drive enterprise-wide, high-impact sourcing strategies and lead complex negotiations with key suppliers.

  • Bachelor’s degree required; MBA or JD preferred.
  • 10+ years of progressive strategic sourcing or commercial leadership experience.
  • Strong negotiation experience with Master Agreements, SOWs, Change Orders, etc.
  • Experience leading global strategic sourcing in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Ability to collaborate with business partners to implement category strategies at scale.

Responsibilities

  • Own category strategy and contract negotiations across multiple spend categories.
  • Design data-driven sourcing strategies balancing cost, speed, quality and innovation.
  • Lead supplier evaluations, negotiations and end-to-end contract management.
  • Negotiate complex, global agreements focused on savings and value.
  • Use analytics and automation to improve visibility and decision speed.
  • Prepare RFQs/RFPs, evaluate proposals, and manage evaluation processes.
  • Serve as trusted commercial advisor to senior leaders across HR, Finance and Legal.
  • Align sourcing strategies to enterprise growth and margin goals.
  • Develop team capabilities in category management and strategic sourcing processes.
  • Define and implement process improvements to increase engagement and reduce cycle time.

Job description

The Procurement role of Corporate Services, Director who will drive high-impact strategies enterprise-wide for stakeholders — delivering measurable enterprise value by leading strategic sourcing and contract negotiations with key suppliers.

Reporting to the Head of Global Procurement, a successful candidate will have experience in best-practice procurement methods and business processes; deep data-driven analytical skills; and demonstrated success at building consensus, navigating through ambiguity, and developing deep relationships across disparate stakeholder groups.

Key Responsibilities
  • - Own category strategy and contract negotiations across several categories of spend: Professional Services, Travel, Contingent Workforce, and Workplace Facilities and CapEx related projects.
  • - Design data-driven sourcing strategies that effectively address stakeholder objectives while balancing cost, speed, quality, and innovation.
  • - Lead supplier evaluations, negotiations, and contract management (end to end) ensuring best-in-class procurement practices.
  • - Negotiate complex, global agreements focused on total value, negotiated savings (budgetary and avoidance), and market-reasonable terms.
  • - Use analytics and automation to enhance visibility and decision speed.
  • - Prepare RFQs, RFPs, bid documents, analyze and evaluate proposals, and administer the evaluation process.
  • - Serve as trusted commercial advisor to senior leaders across HR, Finance, and Legal.
  • - Align sourcing strategies to enterprise goals for growth and margin.
  • - Manage and develop organizational and team member capabilities, particularly in category management and strategic sourcing processes.
  • - Troubleshoot and resolve process issues impacting internal stakeholders.
  • - Define and implement process improvements that increase engagement, reduce cycle time and deliver efficiency gains, while ensuring compliance with policies and mitigating supplier risk.
  • - Manage and optimize strategic supplier relationships to drive innovation and accountability.
  • - Lead a high-performing team recognized for innovation and commercial excellence.
  • - Provide thought leadership from a procurement/sourcing perspective and work with business partners to develop new and creative strategies.
Qualifications
  • - Bachelor’s Degree required. MBA or JD preferred.
  • - 10+ years of progressive strategic sourcing or commercial leadership experience leading Corporate Services / Professional Services spend categories.; 8+ years of team leadership experience.
  • - Strong negotiation experience (Master Agreements, Statements of Work, Change Orders, etc.) and demonstrated organizational and project management skills.
  • - Success in large-scale enterprise initiatives and demonstrated expertise in strategic sourcing at a global scale and within a fast paced, and dynamic organization is required.
  • - Outstanding ability to collaborate with business partners and teams in defining and implementing category strategies at scale.
  • - Solid leadership skills and demonstrated ability to recruit, mentor, develop and retain outstanding strategic sourcing teams.
  • - Strong financial acumen and complex negotiation experience.
  • - Excellent executive communication and stakeholder influencing skills.
  • - Other duties as necessary and assigned.

$161,050.00-246,933.33
Inclusive of annual base salary and target incentive
