Job summary

EPM Scientific seeks a Director, Process Chemistry (Small Molecule) to lead and mentor a team in designing, optimizing, and scaling manufacturing processes for small molecule therapeutics. You will guide programs from early research through late-stage development, ensuring safe, economical production and robust tech transfer to partners.

Qualifications

• MS or PhD in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or related discipline with 12+ years of pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry experience, including people leadership.
• Deep expertise in pharmaceutical process chemistry, process development, route design, impurity control, purification, and tech transfer.
• Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary teams delivering APIs across development stages.
• Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead cross-functional development and manufacturing teams to design and optimize scalable processes.
• Drive process development from route selection through commercial manufacturing readiness.
• Oversee design, optimization, characterization, and control of chemical processes for safe and economical production.
• Mentor scientists and engineers, developing future technical leaders.
• Generate process knowledge to support scale-up and technology transfer to partners.
• Collaborate with Process Engineering, Analytical Chemistry, and other CMC functions for clinical supply and filings.
• Contribute to CMC strategy, technical reports, regulatory filings, and governance presentations.
• Manage relationships with CROs/CMOs and oversee external development activities.
• Initiate innovative research to enhance understanding and manufacturing efficiency.
• Represent the organization in publications, industry consortia, and conferences.
