Job summary

Cooper Tacia General Contracting seeks a strategic Director of Preconstruction to lead all preconstruction services from Raleigh and Atlanta offices. You will oversee conceptual estimating, GMP development, value engineering, and proposal strategy for complex commercial work, while guiding a team and cultivating client relationships.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in construction management, civil engineering, architecture or related field is required; MBA or advanced degree preferred.
• 15–20 years of progressive preconstruction/estimating experience in commercial construction; at least 8 years in a senior leadership role.
• Proven track record managing complex commercial projects ranging from $10M to $50M across CM-at-Risk, design-build, and hard-bid.
• Expert proficiency in estimating platforms and construction management tools including MS Office, ProEst, Bluebeam, MS Project, Procore, Salesforce.
• Familiarity with CAD/BIM, takeoff and clash detection workflows is a plus.
• Strong business acumen, analytical mindset, and executive-level communication and leadership skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide executive leadership and oversight of all preconstruction functions (conceptual estimating, GMP development, value engineering, proposal strategy).
• Serve as primary client and design professional contact on major projects through preconstruction.
• Lead strategic planning and execution of project pursuits aligned with company goals.
• Oversee and mentor a team of preconstruction professionals and foster continuous improvement.
• Implement standards and best practices across projects to ensure quality and consistency.
• Champion adoption of new estimating tools and construction technologies.
• Collaborate with senior leadership across operations, field, BD, and marketing for smooth project transitions.
