Job summary

Phoenix Tailings is seeking a Director of Pilot Plant Engineering in Burlington to lead the development, execution, and operation of pilot-scale rare earth separation and metallization programs. You will bridge R&D and manufacturing, setting priorities, coordinating engineering work, and ensuring a clean translation of pilot learnings into production requirements.

The role demands 8+ years in pilot plant environments, strong leadership, and hands-on experience with complex equipment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a technical field (Chemical/Mechanical/Metallurgical) or related.
• 8+ years in pilot plant engineering or similar industrial setting.
• Proven experience leading pilot/scale-up projects from plan to handoff.
• Strong project management with multiple concurrent workstreams.
• Ability to translate pilot results into manufacturing requirements.

Responsibilities

• Lead pilot-scale programs for rare earth separation and metallization technologies, from development to handoff.
• Set project plans, priorities, and resources for pilot initiatives.
• Coordinate across R&D, engineering, operations, and manufacturing.
• Systematize pilot operations with procedures and data practices.
• Oversee design and modification of pilot equipment and systems.
