Winchester Hospital is seeking a dynamic and strategic Director of Pharmacy to lead pharmacy operations and drive excellence in patient care, service delivery, regulatory compliance, and organizational performance. As a key member of the Pharmacy and leadership teams, the Director of Pharmacy is responsible for overseeing all aspects of departmental operations, financial performance, strategic planning, staff development, and quality improvement initiatives.

The successful candidate will be a collaborative leader who is passionate about delivering safe, efficient, and patient-centered pharmacy services while fostering a culture of continuous improvement, innovation, engagement, and accountability.

Job Description
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Pharmacy from an accredited school of pharmacy
  • Current pharmacist licensure in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts or eligibility for licensure.
  • 7 years of progressive leadership experience within a related field or 5 years of management experience within hospital pharmacy operations.
  • Demonstrated experience with operational management, budgeting, performance improvement, and regulatory compliance.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and relationship-building skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Doctor in Pharmacy (PharmD) from an accredited school of pharmacy
  • Advanced leadership experience in an acute care hospital setting.
  • Board certification and/or postgraduate residency training.
  • Lean Six Sigma, quality improvement, or healthcare management certification.
  • Experience leading strategic growth initiatives and service expansion programs.
Key Responsibilities
Operational Leadership
  • Lead pharmacy operations to ensure the delivery of safe, effective, efficient, timely, and patient-centered services.
  • Promote a culture of performance excellence and continuous improvement utilizing Lean Six Sigma and performance improvement methodologies.
  • Monitor departmental performance metrics and implement strategies to improve outcomes.
  • Stay current with industry trends, best practices, and regulatory requirements.
Strategic Growth and Service Development
  • Identify and implement opportunities to expand services, increase patient volume, and enhance customer value.
  • Collaborate with physicians, leadership, and operational partners to support growth initiatives and service line development.
  • Build strong physician relationships to optimize utilization of hospital resources and pharmacy services.
Strategic Planning
  • Develop and support short- and long-term operational and strategic plans.
  • Evaluate infrastructure needs, including facilities, technology, equipment, and information systems.
  • Monitor achievement of departmental goals and implement corrective actions as needed.
  • Communicate organizational goals and foster staff engagement in achieving departmental and hospital objectives.
Fiscal Management
  • Develop operational and capital budgets based on data analysis and operational trends.
  • Monitor financial performance and implement strategies to achieve budget targets.
  • Investigate and communicate budget variances and financial opportunities.
  • Engage staff in understanding and supporting fiscal stewardship initiatives.
Leadership and Staff Development
  • Recruit, hire, mentor, and develop high-performing team members and leaders.
  • Provide ongoing coaching, performance feedback, and professional development opportunities.
  • Ensure timely and meaningful performance evaluations and succession planning.
  • Foster a culture of recognition, accountability, continuous learning, and career growth.
  • Participate in employee relations and disciplinary processes as appropriate.
Employee Engagement and Retention
  • Create an open, collaborative, and supportive work environment.
  • Facilitate regular staff communication and engagement activities.
  • Address employee concerns proactively and constructively.
  • Lead initiatives to improve employee satisfaction, engagement, and retention.
  • Promote a culture of safety and well-being throughout the department.
Physician and Customer Satisfaction
  • Serve as a liaison between pharmacy services, medical staff, and hospital leadership.
  • Promote physician engagement and incorporate provider feedback into operational decisions.
  • Develop and monitor customer satisfaction measures and implement improvement plans.
  • Resolve escalated customer concerns effectively and professionally.
Regulatory Compliance and Quality
  • Ensure department policies and procedures remain current, effective, and compliant.
  • Maintain compliance with all applicable laws, standards, regulations, and accreditation requirements.
  • Educate staff on regulatory expectations and address performance or knowledge gaps.
  • Support clinical research initiatives and organizational quality goals as appropriate.
Process Improvement and Organizational Leadership
  • Lead and participate in hospital committees, multidisciplinary initiatives, and organizational projects.
  • Promote collaboration across departments to improve patient care and operational effectiveness.
  • Champion change management efforts and continuous process improvement initiatives.

Pay Range

$186,992.00 USD - $208,000.00 USD

The pay range listed for this position is the annual base salary range the organization reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position at this time. Actual compensation is determined based on several factors, that may include seniority, education, training, relevant experience, relevant certifications, geographyof work location, job responsibilities, or other applicable factors permissible by law.
