Mudflap serves the $800B trucking industry, the backbone of the U.S. economy. Our market-leading payment products help truckers save thousands of dollars on fuel (their #1 business expense), while providing our fuel stop partners with access to new, hard-to-reach customers. We’re a fast-growing marketplace business looking for a new employee-obsessed teammate to join us on this exciting journey.

As the Director of People Ops, you will manage both the big picture and day-to-day operations of the People function. You’ll play a critical role in supporting a positive and engaging employee experience for our growing and distributed team.

This role involves a hybrid work approach, balancing in-office collaboration with the ability to work remotely.

Expectations (In this role, you will):

  • Partner closely with our Executive team and people managers to build a performance-driven culture—acting as a coach and thought partner on everything from feedback and team development to org planning and accountability
  • Manage and evolve our total rewards program, including compensation and benefits, to help us attract, retain, and motivate top talent
  • Build and run People programs across the employee journey, like onboarding, performance, and development, in partnership with leadership and grounded in Mudflap’s mission and values
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams like Talent, Finance, and Legal to stay aligned on hiring, compensation, and systems; help shape scalable, effective People practices
  • Support managers through employee relations issues with empathy and clarity, offering practical, solutions-oriented guidance
  • Oversee core People operations—including benefits, HRIS, and People data—stepping in when needed to keep things running smoothly and compliantly
  • Ensure we comply with all employment laws and internal policies, identifying gaps or inefficiencies and leading thoughtful improvements as we grow
  • Support employees to resolve questions/challenges and provide an excellent experience to the Mudflap team

Experience (What we look for):

  • 7+ years of experience in People Operations/Human Resources, including time at a high-growth startup
  • Proven experience as a strategic business partner to leaders, especially in coaching managers, shaping team development, and influencing org decisions
  • Strong expertise in benefits, compensation, compliance, and People systems (we use ADP WFN, HiBob, Greenhouse, Sequoia, and more)
  • A track record of using data and sound judgment to prioritize, make decisions, and drive results at both strategic and tactical levels
  • Excellent communication skills—written, verbal, and visual—including experience presenting to senior leadership
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to see initiatives through from idea to execution
  • Tech-savvy and quick to learn new tools, systems, and processes, with the ability to work independently and bring in others when needed

Perks and Benefits (What we offer):

  • A committed team on a mission to change a massive industry for the better
  • A high bar for quality and commitment to self-improvement
  • An open mind to new ideas and methodologies
  • Competitive salary and benefit options
  • Opportunities and support for major career growth
