Job Description

The Director of AMG Patient Access is a leadership role that is instrumental in optimizing the front-end revenue cycle functions in outpatient physician clinics within all Adena hospital-based and regional site locations. With a specific focus on patient access operations, the Director is responsible for developing and implementing strategies to enhance registration, insurance verification, time-of-service collections, and the front-end patient experience. Through collaboration with departmental managers and a dotted-line reporting structure with front-end caregivers, the Director leads the charge in driving operational efficiencies, improving patient experience, and maximizing revenue integrity at the point of entry. The Director utilizes a data-driven approach to enhance patient access functions and elevate front-end revenue cycle performance. Leading initiatives in patient access to improve operational efficiency and patient experience, the Director of AMG Patient Access assures compliance with Adena Health and Adena Medical Group policies, applicable laws and regulations, and accreditation standards. This position involves minimal patient contact and requires access to confidential information, as well as independent functioning. Travel within the Adena service area is a requirement.


Required Educational Degree: Master’s Degree or Certified Medical Practice Executive (CMPE) Certification through MGMA – All existing Adena employees must meet the Master’s requirement or certification by 12/31/2025. New hires must meet the requirements within two years of the hire date.
Major/Area of Concentration: Business Administration or related field
Preferred Certifications, Credentials and Licenses: Certified Medical Practice Executive Certification (CMPE)
Required Experience: 7-10 years of experience in healthcare leadership with at least 5 years of experience in a supervisory capacity over patient registration, pre-registration, scheduling, or other similar capacity.
Preferred Experience: Experience with EPIC EMR

Job Specific Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Familiarity with the full suite of Microsoft Office products, with proficiency in Excel.
  • Managerial experience in EMR, with solid working knowledge of dashboards and reporting.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to leverage data to drive patient access improvements.
  • Must be able and comfortable with training in small and large groups, both in-person and virtually.
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment, including with external partners and consultants to ensure smooth implementation of Adena Health initiatives.
  • Must possess critical thinking and problem-solving abilities, with a proactive approach to challenges.

Job Specific Essential Functions

  • Identifies system, workflow, and performance issues in Patient Access and works with Revenue Cycle leaders and other stakeholders to resolve issues and concerns raised, as well as ongoing monitoring and assessment that may be needed.
  • Create a proactive approach to denial prevention by implementing best practices to streamline registration workflows, minimize denials, and maximize revenue capture at the front end.
  • Through a dotted line structure, provides data and/or feedback on individual and group caregiver performance to clinic and service line leadership for use in evaluations and other forms of caregiver counseling.
  • Partners with clinic leadership in development of the annual service line budget and maintains a continuous oversight role in meeting the clinic collections targets set by the organization.
  • Promotes caregiver engagement by building competence and confidence through education and feedback.
  • Conducts regular staff meetings to disseminate hospital and/or department/division information and allows for discussion of caregiver concerns needing clarification or resolution.
  • Collaborates with cross-functional teams, including financial counseling, compliance, billing, payer integration, accounting, and IT to ingrate patient access solutions with downstream revenue cycle processes.
  • Maintains professional knowledge base with organizations such as MGMA and societal organizations to understand the economic, political, and management activities that relate to the clinical services within their purview.
  • Works collaboratively with clinic leadership to perform staff management functions related to employee selection, on-boarding/orientation, coaching/development, work assignments, performance management, and goal alignment as guided by Adena Health policy and procedures.
  • Ensures AMG patient access caregivers are trained and equipped to provide excellent customer service to patients.
