Job Summary

The Director of Manufacturing Engineering will own and manage all engineering aspects of high-volume production and assembly for small, intricate, precision electro-optic and electro-mechanical assemblies. This individual will be responsible for driving improvements in manufacturing processes, leading new product introductions, and expanding our production capabilities to support future growth. The ideal candidate will be a subject matter expert with extensive experience in process optimization, automation, and team building.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own all aspects of manufacturing engineering for high-volume production and assembly of small, intricate precision assemblies, with a preference for electro-optic/electro-mechanical assemblies.
  • Lead the ramp-up of new product manufacturing from prototype to pilot production to full-scale sustained production.
  • Manage all engineering aspects of assembly workflow, tooling/fixturing design, process control, automation, and testing.
  • Drive continuous improvement in production processes, including adhesive application, potting, soldering, and lubrication using modern, automated techniques.
  • Design, develop, commission, and implement complex assembly equipment and automated vision systems for CNC gluing, parts handling, and assembly.
  • Improve delicate soldering and potting procedures to ensure high-quality production outcomes.
  • Collaborate with R&D to implement Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFMA) for new product introductions and existing products.
  • Manage, and scale a Manufacturing Engineering Team to meet production goals and support future growth.
  • Identify, plan, and implement process improvements to increase capacity, efficiency, and product quality.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in interdisciplinary/integrated engineering, manufacturing engineering, or a related field.
  • 8+ years of industry-relevant experience in high-volume production and assembly environments.
  • In-depth knowledge of adhesive, potting, and lubrication applications using automated CNC vision machines.
  • Expertise in delicate soldering and potting procedures.
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD design for developing complex fixtures for assembly, alignment, automation, parts handling, and testing.
  • Proven track record of driving equipment-related process improvements.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to build and scale a high-performing team.
  • Excellent problem-solving, project management, and communication skills.
