Job summary

MeoowzResQ Inc. seeks a compassionate, highly organized Director of Operations to lead the nonprofit cat rescue and its day-to-day activities, including staff, volunteers, adoption and foster programs, grants, fundraising support, and administration.

The role reports to the Executive Board and requires flexibility to address urgent needs after hours while maintaining mission-driven operations and community impact.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of leadership or operations management experience.
  • Experience managing employees, volunteers, or multiple departments.
  • Nonprofit management experience preferred.
  • Grant writing or grant management experience preferred.
  • Experience with fundraising initiatives and donor relations is a plus.
  • Experience with project management and organizational systems.
  • Experience using ShelterLuv or similar shelter management software is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee all day-to-day rescue operations.
  • Lead and supervise all department coordinators and office staff.
  • Develop operational goals, policies, and procedures.
  • Identify opportunities to improve efficiency and organizational effectiveness.

About the Position

MeoowzResQ is seeking a compassionate, highly organized, and results-driven Director of Operations to lead the day-to-day operations of our nonprofit cat rescue. This executive leadership role oversees staff, volunteer coordinators, rescue operations, adoption programs, foster services, grants, fundraising support, and organizational administration while ensuring our mission is carried out efficiently and professionally.

The Director of Operations reports directly to the Executive Board and works collaboratively with department leaders to ensure every aspect of the organization operates effectively. Because cat rescue is mission-driven and unpredictable, the Director of Operations must be willing to respond to urgent operational needs outside of normal business hours when necessary.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Executive Leadership
  • Lead and supervise all department coordinators and office staff.
  • Develop operational goals, policies, and procedures.
  • Identify opportunities to improve efficiency and organizational effectiveness.
  • Work closely with the Board of Directors on strategic initiatives and organizational planning.
  • Help oversee budgets and organizational resources.
  • Recruit and mentor volunteers and department leaders.
Daily Operations
  • Oversee all day-to-day rescue operations.
  • Ensure departments are working collaboratively and meeting organizational goals.
  • Monitor animal care standards and operational compliance.
  • Foster a collaborative, respectful, and mission-focused culture.
  • Adoption & Foster Programs
  • Work with adoption coordinators to oversee adoption events.
  • Support Foster, Medical, Volunteer, Fundraising and Adoption Coordinators.
  • Ensure exceptional customer service for adopters, volunteers, and community partners.
Preferred Qualifications

We’re looking for someone with a combination of leadership experience, nonprofit knowledge, and strong business skills.

Preferred Experience
  • 3+ years of leadership or operations management experience.
  • Experience managing employees, volunteers, or multiple departments.
  • Business operations or executive management experience.
  • Nonprofit management experience preferred.
  • Animal rescue, shelter medicine, veterinary, or animal welfare experience strongly preferred.
  • Grant writing or grant management experience preferred.
  • Experience with fundraising initiatives and donor relations is a plus.
  • Experience with project management and organizational systems.
  • Experience using ShelterLuv or similar shelter management software is preferred.

Compensation & Benefits
