Position Summary

This is a salaried, exempt managerial position that makes decisions and has access to confidential labor relations information. Reporting to the Chief Operations Officer, this position is responsible for managing day-to-day operations of Nursing Services related to regulatory requirements, supervision of Nurse Managers, RN Supervisors, Clinical Education, staffing office, and per diem nurses. It involves participating in planning, implementing, and evaluating services provided by the Nursing Department to ensure quality, cost-effective care for all residents in accordance with professional standards and regulatory requirements.

  • Understand and promote Elizabeth Seton Children’s Mission, Vision, and Core Values to ensure application with organizational policies and procedures and everyday practices.
  • Provide direct supervision to Nurse Managers, RN Supervisors, and all per diem nursing staff.
  • Oversee the Manager of Staffing and Scheduling to ensure staffing requirements are met and appropriately distributed across neighborhoods for resident care.
  • Collect data from multiple sources to evaluate nursing practices and develop strategies for improvement to meet standards of care.
  • Promote employee engagement by acting as a catalyst for change, listening to staff, and addressing concerns requiring support or modification. Involve employees in decision-making as appropriate.
  • Establish a program to monitor, evaluate, and improve documentation and compliance with New York State Department of Health regulations, including care planning, MDS, investigations, incident reports, and medication errors.
  • Develop and monitor the budget for Nursing and Education Departments to ensure operations stay within financial requirements while delivering quality care.
  • Collaborate with Elizabeth Seton Children’s School to ensure continuity of care and promote teamwork among clinical staff.
  • Attend state committees and planning meetings as required.
  • Conduct investigations in accordance with nursing standards and state Department of Health requirements for abuse and neglect reporting.
  • Assist in developing and implementing corrective action plans for deficiencies.
  • Monitor and adjust per diem scheduling to maintain care standards.
  • Work with Physicians, Therapists, Creative Arts, and other team members to develop and review policies and procedures.
  • Participate in survey readiness programs.
  • Conduct audits on medication and documentation compliance, providing data and collaborating on performance improvements.
  • Perform purposeful rounds with the clinical team to observe, interact, and address issues with staff, residents, and families.
  • Collaborate with other personnel to ensure quality resident care.
  • Maintain and update policies and procedures for daily operations.
  • Evaluate processes regularly and recommend necessary changes to COO.
  • Coordinate nursing services with other resident services to ensure comprehensive care.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain a performance improvement program for nursing services.
Qualifications
Education Requirements
  • Master’s degree or significant relevant experience
  • NYS RN License
  • BCLS and PALS certification
  • Certification as Nurse Administrator from the American Nurses Association (preferred)
Experience
  • Minimum 7 years in nursing leadership with pediatrics experience; long-term care management experience preferred
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a unionized environment
  • Expertise in long-term care regulations, survey requirements, MDS, and investigative procedures
Employee Requirements

  • Meet health standards and regulatory requirements
  • Pass medical and physical examinations
  • Able to lift at least 35 pounds
  • Perform tasks involving exposure to blood/body fluids
  • Assist in resident evacuation if necessary
Working Conditions

Salary Range

$180,000 to $210,000 per year.
