Job summary

MedStar Harbor Hospital, part of MedStar Health, is seeking a Director of Nursing to lead the adult inpatient psychiatric unit, the child/adolescent unit, and the psychiatric ED unit. The role emphasizes evidence-based care, strong leadership, and safety culture across units.

The director will guide change management efforts, partner with security and support services, and ensure high quality patient care with a focus on staff wellbeing and professional development.

Qualifications

• BSN from a nationally accredited program is required.
• 4 years of RN experience required; 2 years of management/leadership experience preferred.
• Active MD RN License or Active Compact State RN and BLS required; PMH-BC preferred.

Responsibilities

• Oversee the adult inpatient psychiatric unit (36 beds across two units).
• Lead the Crisis Stabilization Unit (10 bed) within the main ED with psychiatric staff.
• Provide experienced leadership and engage in change management initiatives.
• Support a high reliability culture with a culture of safety.

The Director of Nursing is a member of MedStar Health entity-based Division of Nursing's (DON) leadership/management team and is responsible for the adult inpatient psychiatric unit, child and adolescent psychiatric unit and psychiatric ED unit of organized nursing and patient care services.

Qualifications

• BSN from a nationally accredited program required; master's degree in nursing or health related field from a nationally accredited program preferred.
• 4 years of RN experience required; 2 years of management and leadership experience preferred, particularly in an inpatient psychiatric environment; at least 2 years of psychiatric RN experience strongly preferred.
• Active MD RN License or Active Compact State RN and Basic Life Support for Healthcare providers required (AHA or American Red Cross). PMH-BC strongly preferred.
