Job description

Athena Health Care Systems is hiring a Director of Nursing Practices to support the quality of care at our Massachusetts and Rhode Island skilled nursing facilities!

Athena manages 20 facilities throughout Massachusetts and Rhode Island, and the candidate must be willing to travel between locations frequently (full list of towns below). This is a salaried role with weekly pay.

The Director of Nursing Practices is directly responsible for the quality of care and clinical practice standards of the facilities, including clinical oversight, support, and leadership to the teams.

Education & Experience:

  • Must possess an active and unencumbered RN license in Massachusetts.

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing required. Master's in Nursing or Healthcare Administration preferred.

  • In-depth knowledge of CMS regulations, QAPI programs, clinical policy development, and interdisciplinary collaboration required.

  • At a minimum, five years' experience as a Director of Nursing in a skilled nursing facility.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Develop, implement, and oversee all established policies and procedures for nursing and other clinical services.

  • Oversee Athena’s continuous quality management program. In conjunction with other operational director, revise the clinical quality improvement program, as necessary.

  • Coordinate with clinical IT team to ensure alignment of clinical initiatives with Athena’s EMR platform; support implementation, training, and optimization as needed.

  • Establish processes that lead to systemic approach for improving the delivery of care.

  • Oversee the regional nurses and directors of nursing services, and clinical discipline leads (e.g. infection preventionists, wound care, staff development nurse) including hiring, training, performance evaluations, and duties.

  • Assist with creating performance improvement plans for regional nurses and directors of nursing services and ensuring improvement goals are met.

  • Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations regarding long-term care operations.

  • Promote a systematic approach to quality assurance, resident satisfaction, and clinical documentation improvement.

  • Serve as a liaison and consultant to interdisciplinary teams across all clinical departments, including but not limited to nursing, rehabilitation, social work, and dietary services.

  • Lead survey readiness efforts, including the development and management of mock surveys, staff preparation, and survey follow-up planning.

  • Collaborate closely with Infection Prevention, Staff Development, and Wound Care personnel to monitor clinical program effectiveness and compliance.

  • Provide educational training to the directors of nursing services and other staff.

  • Establish a process to evaluate outcomes of action plans in each facility to determine if performance was improved and/or resident’s outcomes positive.

  • Establish and monitor a process to identify any weaknesses and strengths in care delivery in order to institute plans to improve performance.

Specific Requirements:

  • Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.

  • Exceptional leadership and team-building skills with a demonstrated ability to influence and support change across multiple sites.

  • Strong organizational and analytical abilities; proficiency in using quality dashboards and performance data to drive clinical improvement.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to coach and mentor across all levels of staff.

  • Must have demonstrated capabilities for overseeing quality of care in long-term care facilities.

  • Must be able to demonstrate leadership capabilities.

  • Must have thorough knowledge of all local, state, and federal rules and regulations as they pertain to the operation of a long-term care facility.

  • Must be willing to travel and provide on-site support to Athena-managed facilities.

  • Must possess the ability to make independent decisions, to follow instructions, and to accept constructive criticism.

  • Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel and the general public.

  • Must possess the ability to seek out new methods and principles and be willing to incorporate them into existing clinical services practices.

The locations of the facilities are RI: Providence, Newport, Woonsocket, East Providence. MA: Sandisfield, Centerville, Sandwich, Plymouth, Haverhill, Lowell, Marlborough, Worcester, Webster, Southbridge, North Easton, Wareham, Rockland. Mileage is reimbursed.
