The role requires strong leadership, on-call availability, and collaboration with physicians, residents, and families. A SC RN license and 7+ years of nurse management experience are preferred, with BSN encouraged.

Qualifications

  • Current, unrestricted RN license in South Carolina.
  • BSN preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and management of the nursing department.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor nursing policies and procedures.
  • Ensure resident safety and promote a culture of dignity, respect, and quality care.
  • Help recruit, hire, onboard, train, and retain nursing staff.
  • Maintain appropriate staffing levels and oversee scheduling processes.
  • Conduct employee evaluations, coaching, disciplinary action, and performance improvement activities.
  • Develop and conduct clinical education and in-service training programs.
  • Coordinate pharmacy services and medication management processes.
  • Serve as a liaison between physicians, residents, families, and the facility.
  • Collaborate with all departments to promote exceptional resident outcomes.
  • Participate in QA, Utilization Review, and Patient Care Conferences.
  • Coordinate MDS processes and resident care planning activities.
  • Develop and manage departmental budgets and reporting requirements.
  • Stay current with regulatory requirements and communicate updates appropriately.
  • Lead survey readiness efforts and participate in state surveys and follow-up activities.
  • Maintain resident and employee confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA regulations.
  • Provide direct resident care and clinical support as needed.
  • Participate in on-call rotation and respond to facility needs after hours as necessary.

Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced and compassionate Director of Nursing (DON, RN) to lead our nursing department and oversee the delivery of quality resident care. The DON is responsible for managing clinical operations, supervising nursing staff, ensuring regulatory compliance, maintaining staffing levels, and fostering a culture of excellence throughout the facility.

This role is vital in ensuring residents receive high-quality, compassionate care while supporting and developing a strong clinical team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide overall leadership and management of the nursing department
  • Develop, implement, and monitor nursing policies and procedures
  • Ensure resident safety and promote a culture of dignity, respect, and quality care

  • Maintain appropriate staffing levels and oversee scheduling processes

Supervisory Responsibilities
  • Directly supervises the Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) and nursing leadership team
  • Oversees the entire nursing department either directly or indirectly
  • Responsible for staff development, accountability, and department performance
Qualifications
Education & Experience
  • Current, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in South Carolina
  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred
  • Minimum 7 years of nurse management experience preferred
  • Skilled nursing or long-term care leadership experience strongly preferred
  • Proven experience managing clinical operations, staffing, budgets, and regulatory compliance
Skills & Knowledge
  • Strong knowledge of state and federal nursing home regulations
  • Experience with survey management and quality improvement initiatives
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
  • Experience with PointClickCare (PCC) required/preferred
  • Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to effectively lead interdisciplinary teams
Licenses & Certifications
  • Must maintain all required continuing education and licensure requirements
  • Must remain in good standing with the South Carolina Board of Nursing at all times
