Job summary

A premier skilled nursing and rehabilitation facility in New York is seeking an experienced and dedicated Director of Nursing (DON) to provide overall clinical leadership and operational oversight for its Nursing Department.

Reporting directly to the Administrator, this executive role drives resident-centered care, ensures continuous regulatory compliance, and mentors a dedicated nursing team while collaborating with the interdisciplinary team to optimize resident outcomes.

Qualifications

• Current, active NY RN license required.
• Prior Director of Nursing (DON) or senior nursing leadership experience in long-term care required.
• Extensive background in skilled nursing and long-term care environments required.
• Strong knowledge of NY DOH regulations, CMS requirements, and survey processes.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).

Responsibilities

• Oversee daily operations and clinical management of the nursing department.
• Ensure full compliance with all applicable federal, CMS, and NY DOH regulations.
• Provide direct clinical leadership, supervision, mentoring, and support to nursing staff.
• Maintain facility readiness for state, federal, and regulatory surveys and inspections.
• Manage department staffing schedules and ongoing clinical staff competencies.
• Develop, review, and implement evidence-based nursing policies and procedures.
• Lead QAPI program and quality initiatives.
• Conduct regular clinical rounds to monitor resident care delivery and staff performance.
• Address and resolve staff concerns and grievances professionally.
• Collaborate with Administrator and interdisciplinary team to foster a high-performing care environment.

Overview

A premier skilled nursing and rehabilitation facility in New York is seeking an experienced and dedicated Director of Nursing (DON) to provide overall clinical leadership and operational oversight for its Nursing Department. Reporting directly to the Administrator, this key executive role drives resident-centered care, ensures continuous regulatory compliance, and mentors a dedicated nursing team while collaborating with the interdisciplinary team to optimize resident outcomes.

What you'll do

• Oversee the daily operations and clinical management of the nursing department
• Ensure full compliance with all applicable federal, CMS, and New York State Department of Health (DOH) regulations
• Provide direct clinical leadership, supervision, mentoring, and support to all nursing department staff
• Maintain continuous facility readiness for state, federal, and regulatory surveys and inspections
• Manage department staffing schedules to ensure adequate coverage and oversee ongoing clinical staff competencies
• Develop, review, and implement evidence-based nursing policies, clinical procedures, and operational best practices
• Act as an active leader in the Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) program and quality initiatives
• Conduct regular clinical rounds to monitor resident care delivery, clinical outcomes, and staff performance
• Address and resolve staff concerns, clinical complaints, and grievances in a professional and timely manner
• Collaborate closely with the Administrator and interdisciplinary team to foster a positive, high-performing care environment

Required qualifications

• Current, active, and unencumbered Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of New York required
• Previous Director of Nursing (DON) or senior nursing leadership experience in a long-term care setting required
• Extensive background and clinical experience in skilled nursing and long-term care environments required
• Strong, in-depth knowledge of New York State DOH regulations, CMS requirements, and survey processes
• Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
• Exceptional leadership, communication, organizational efficiency, and high professional standards

Preferred qualifications

• Experience with SigmaCare EMR strongly preferred
