Job summary

Indiana Treatment Centers in Mishawaka, IN, is seeking an experienced Director of Nursing to lead nursing operations, ensure patient safety, and drive clinical excellence in a busy behavioral health setting. Qualifications

  • Current, unrestricted RN license in Indiana

Responsibilities

  • Lead and oversee nursing operations across all shifts
  • Recruit, onboard, supervise, schedule, and develop RNs and LPNs
  • Ensure safe, high-quality nursing care throughout the patient treatment experience
  • Oversee nursing assessments, withdrawal monitoring, medication administration, and clinical documentation
  • Maintain medication management systems, MAR accuracy, medication reconciliation, storage, controlled substances accountability, and audits
  • Partner with physicians, nurse practitioners, pharmacy partners, and facility leadership
  • Monitor changes in patient condition and ensure appropriate clinical intervention
  • Provide direct patient care when necessary
  • Lead nursing participation in incident reviews, infection prevention, emergency response, and quality improvement
  • Regulatory readiness for Joint Commission surveys
  • Ensure nursing staff maintain licenses, certifications, competencies, and training
  • Coach nursing team members and address performance concerns
  • Participate in interdisciplinary treatment team and leadership meetings

We are seeking an experienced Director of Nursing (DON) to lead nursing operations at our Mishawaka treatment center.

This is a hands-on leadership opportunity for a strong nurse leader who knows how to build an accountable team, maintain high clinical standards, and create an environment where both patients and staff feel supported. The DON will oversee nursing operations, medication management, staffing, patient safety, and regulatory readiness while partnering closely with facility and medical leadership.

What You’ll Do
  • Lead and oversee nursing operations across all shifts.
  • Recruit, onboard, supervise, schedule, and develop RNs and LPNs.
  • Maintain appropriate nursing coverage based on patient census and clinical needs.
  • Ensure safe, high-quality nursing care throughout the patient treatment experience.
  • Oversee nursing assessments, withdrawal monitoring, medication administration, and clinical documentation.
  • Maintain medication management systems, including MAR accuracy, medication reconciliation, storage, controlled substance accountability, and routine audits.
  • Partner with physicians, nurse practitioners, pharmacy partners, and facility leadership regarding patient care.
  • Monitor changes in patient condition and ensure appropriate clinical intervention and escalation.
  • Provide direct patient care when necessary to support the nursing team and facility operations.
  • Lead nursing participation in incident reviews, infection prevention, emergency response, and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain ongoing readiness for regulatory and accreditation surveys, including Joint Commission requirements.
  • Ensure nursing staff maintain required licenses, certifications, competencies, and training.
  • Coach nursing team members, address performance concerns, and reinforce clear standards of accountability.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary treatment team and leadership meetings.
  • Promote a professional, trauma-informed, recovery-focused nursing culture.

You are a confident, approachable nursing leader who can balance clinical excellence with strong operations.

You are comfortable being visible on the floor, coaching staff in real time, addressing difficult issues, and stepping into patient care when the team needs you. You understand that great nursing leadership in behavioral health requires strong clinical judgment, excellent medication controls, consistent documentation, accountability, and compassion.

What We’re Looking For
  • Current, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in Indiana required.
  • Prior nursing leadership or supervisory experience required.
  • Minimum 3 years of nursing experience preferred.
  • Experience in substance use disorder treatment, behavioral health, psychiatric care, detox, residential treatment, or addiction medicine strongly preferred.
  • Previous Director of Nursing, Nurse Manager, Assistant Director of Nursing, or similar leadership experience preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of medication administration, controlled substance management, infection prevention, nursing documentation, and patient safety.
  • Experience supervising and developing nursing staff.
  • Familiarity with Joint Commission accreditation and regulatory compliance strongly preferred.
  • BSN or higher preferred.
  • Current CPR/BLS certification or ability to obtain required certification upon hire.
  • Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and critical-thinking skills.
Schedule

This is a full-time, on-site leadership position in Mishawaka, Indiana.

The Director of Nursing will primarily work weekday leadership hours but must have flexibility based on patient care, staffing, and facility needs. Availability for clinical or nursing escalation outside of traditional business hours may be required.
