Job summary

NewportMeadowsHC is seeking a Director of Nursing (DON) to lead the Nursing Department, ensuring quality care for Residents 24/7 and regulatory compliance across state and federal standards.

The DON will oversee planning, development, and operation of nursing services, participate in Quality Improvement efforts, and support staff recruitment, training, and performance management in a long-term care setting.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
• Active RN license in Pennsylvania.
• Minimum of 1 year professional nursing experience in long-term care.
• Minimum of 2 years experience as a DON.
• Working knowledge of professional nursing standards.
• Knowledge of infection control principles.
• Knowledge of MDS and Care Planning Process.
• Knowledge of state and federal nursing regulations.

Responsibilities

• Ensure quality resident/patient care meeting standards.
• Ensure regulatory compliance with state, federal, and licensing agencies.
• Lead or participate in Quality Improvement groups and multidisciplinary meetings.
• Assist with recruiting, hiring, orientation/training, and retention.
• Monitor staff performance and conduct timely appraisals.
• Schedule rounds to evaluate nursing care quality and appropriateness.
• Adhere to scope of practice based on qualifications.
• Occasionally perform patient care duties as needed.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

The Director of Nursing is responsible for the planning, development, and overall operation of the Nursing Department, ensuring Residents receive quality care 24 hours a day.

Essential Job Duties & Responsibilities

• Ensuring nursing staff is providing quality and appropriate resident/patient care that meets or exceeds company and regulatory standards
• Ensuring compliance with state, federal, and licensing agency regulatory standards
• Leading and/or participating in Quality Improvement (QI) groups and other multidisciplinary meetings
• May assist with recruiting, hiring, providing orientation/training, and retaining a sufficient number of qualified staff to carry out the responsibilities of nursing services
• Ensuring employee performance meets or exceeds expectations and periodic performance appraisals are conducted on a timely basis
• Assists with scheduling and performing rounds to monitor and evaluate the quality and appropriateness of nursing care
• Adheres to scope of practice limitations based on qualifications
• May occasionally be required to perform patient care duties
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Skills & Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
• Active RN License in the State of Pennsylvania
• Minimum of 1 year professional nursing experience in long-term care setting
• Minimum of 2 years experience working as a DON
• Possess a working knowledge and ability to apply standards of professional nursing practice in job situations
• Ability to develop nursing policies and procedures that reflect current clinical practice, professional standards, and facility philosophy of care
• Knowledge of and ability to apply current principles of infection control to facility and resident-specific situations
• Knowledge of MDS and Care Planning Process
• Current knowledge of state and federal laws and regulations that apply to practice of nursing in long-term care
