Description

The Director is responsible for providing vision and leadership for the Simpson University’s Master of Nursing Nurse Practitioner program. The Director will serve as the strategic, academic, and operational leader by guiding faculty with program development, accreditation, self-study, curriculum, administration, teaching, research, service, and assessment/evaluation. The Director of this program will establish and maintain the certification, licensure, and continuing professional development specific to the general Nurse Practitioner, with vision to create additional doctoral-level nursing programs. The Director is responsible for the overall supervision, staffing, planning, and organization of the master-level program, maintaining familiarity with creating new programs and degree pathways.

Required Qualifications

• · Holds a minimum of a master of science in nursing degree
• · Holds an active license as a nurse practitioner in the state of California, or eligibility for a nurse practitioner license in the state of California
• · Holds an active license as a registered nurse in the state of California, or eligibility for a registered nurse license in the state of California
• · Has a minimum of two years teaching in a pre- or post- licensure nursing program
• · Has a minimum of one year experience as nurse practitioner providing direct patient care
• · Demonstrates experience in academic program planning, development, implementation, and evaluation preferred
• · Has experience working with and mentoring adult learners
• · Has the ability to work with people in various roles and organizations
• · Maintains a creative, passionate, competent and entrepreneurial academic leader
• · Has the ability to collaborate and build partnerships within the Simpson community as well as local and professional community

Preferred Qualifications

• 1. Doctoral degree relevant to graduate nursing education (i.e., PhD, DNP, EdD, etc.)
• 2. Previous Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) accreditation experience
• 3. Previous nursing education leadership (i.e., Assistant/Associate Program Director, Clinical Director, etc.)
• 4. Publication in peer-reviewed scientific journals

Essential Functions

• Develops and maintains the relationship between the School of Nursing and the university system, including, but not limited to, acting as a liaison with departments and administrators and with other nursing education program
• Develops and implements academic policies and procedures for the School of Nursing in collaboration with the School of Nursing Faculty
• Acts as a liaison with national and state accrediting agencies in collaboration with the School of Nursing Faculty
• Leads the department in obtaining program-specific certifications and accreditations where appropriate
• Achieves and maintains national and state accreditation for the university’s nursing programs in collaboration with the School of Nursing Faculty
• Participates in activities that facilitate professional expertise in the areas of administration, teaching and maintenance of nursing competences
• Participates in regional accreditation review and reports, as requested
• Develops, implements and evaluates the nursing program curricula in collaboration with School of Nursing Faculty in accordance with national and state regulations, accreditation standards and university policy
• Recommends methods for measuring student attainment of program learning outcomes to the university assessment department in collaboration with the School of Nursing Faculty
• Responsible for all aspects of clinical placements in collaboration with Clinical Coordinator who will develop appropriate clinical sites and establish procedures for placement and monitoring students
• Oversees the assessment of the educational effectiveness of the program, including regular program review, course evaluations, faculty evaluations, exit interviews and graduate questionnaires
• Applies and communicate accurately School of Nursing and university policies, procedures and rationales
• Innovates effective teaching/learning principles for student success in the School of Nursing programs
• Ensures proper administration of human resource policies and procedures as defined by the university
• Oversee the recruitment, hiring, supervision and evaluation of staff and faculty personnel for the program
• Participates in the annual budget planning process for the School of Nursing budget, including operating and capital expenditure
• Manages the School of Nursing budget
• Promotes the program locally, regionally, and nationally
