Job summary

Gettysburg College in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, is seeking an experienced professional for a full-time position as the Director of Religious and Spiritual Life and College Chaplain.

The Director will lead multifaith and interfaith programs, coordinate a team of advisors and student organizations, and participate in campus events such as Baccalaureate and Commencement while aligning the Center for Religious and Spiritual Life with the College’s mission focused on diversity and inclusion.

Qualifications

• Master’s Degree or equivalent in higher education, counseling, divinity, social work, religious studies, or a related field.
• Ordination or recognized standing in a religious tradition suitable for college chaplaincy.
• Minimum of three years of experience in higher education or transferable related experience.
• Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and social justice.
• Ability to collaborate with students, faculty and staff.
• Strong interpersonal and intercultural communication skills.
• Ability to work independently yet collaboratively with attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Provide thoughtful pastoral care for students, faculty, staff, alumni and others regarding emotional, religious, educational, social, professional, and civic issues.
• Support the religious and spiritual development of all students including atheist, agnostic, seeking, or secular.
• Engage students in exploring values, faith, belief, and spiritual practice.
• Write, speak, and stay current on social justice issues affecting higher education and society.
• Collaborate with Multicultural Engagement, Gender and Sexuality, and International Student Services.
• Constitute and advise Interfaith Council and support interfaith dialogue for a respectful multi-faith campus environment.
• Coordinate memorials, remembrances, and vigils as needed.
• Assist and facilitate student attendance at worship services in the local community.
• Administrative duties: supervise staff, maintain the Religious and Spiritual Life webpage and events calendar, participate in meetings, and assess departmental effectiveness.
