Role Overview

The Director of Member Recruitment & State Chapter Growth is responsible for expanding the organization's national membership and supporting chapter development. This role requires a relationship-driven approach, focusing on membership growth, partnership development, and strategic engagement. Reporting to the Head of Operations and collaborating with senior leadership, the role involves engaging potential members, supporting local chapters, and increasing influence across key states.

  • Experienced in outreach or recruitment efforts within civic, nonprofit, or political contexts.
  • Skilled in empowering teams and designing scalable systems for distributed organizations.
  • Comfortable with travel and thrives in high-touch, trust-based environments.
  • A relationship builder who enjoys connecting with diverse stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
Member Recruitment & Outreach
  • Develop and lead national recruitment strategies targeting values-aligned leaders and influencers.
  • Build and manage a pipeline through referrals, outreach, and community engagement.
  • Collaborate with members and chapter leaders to identify leads and foster a culture of member-led recruitment.
Chapter Growth & Leadership Support
  • Support state chapters by empowering local leaders to build communities and recruit members.
  • Create toolkits and resources for chapter engagement and leadership development.
Member Engagement
  • Ensure effective onboarding and integration of new members into chapters and programs.
  • Cultivate local leaders and monitor chapter health and engagement metrics.
External Relations
  • Travel (25-35%) to support chapter activities and partner relations.
  • Build partnerships with civic, alumni, and business networks to support growth.
  • Represent Leadership Now as a trusted ambassador.
Qualifications
  • 7–10 years in community-building, membership, or network leadership roles.
  • Strong interpersonal and coaching skills.
  • Experience with chapter or coalition development.
  • Strategic thinker with cross-departmental collaboration experience.
  • Experience with political or policy-focused environments is a plus.
  • Willingness to travel regularly.
  • Committed to democratic renewal and civic leadership.
  • Location: New York (remote options considered), with travel.
