This position combines strategic thinking, operational excellence, and collaborative leadership to advance the mission and impact of the Society.

We are a small, collaborative team where every role is meaningful and mission-driven. We take pride in providing a high level of service to ISHLT members and partners worldwide.

Key Responsibilities

Membership Development

  • Challenge the status quo to help the Society capitalize on opportunities for membership growth and engagement by recommending and developing innovative programs and benefits to meet the evolving needs of members.
  • Serve as staff liaison to the Membership & Outreach Oversight Committee and Membership Committee, and provide oversight for other components within this portfolio by providing guidance and support to help them fulfill their missions and objectives.
  • Manage dues generation, renewal and acquisition processes and leverage data and metrics to produce regular and ad hoc reports, identify membership trends, and uncover opportunities to enhance the member and customer experiences.
  • Collaborate with Marketing and Communications to develop and provide membership-focused content for recruitment and retention campaigns, the website, and other outreach efforts; lead membership engagement initiatives during the Annual Meeting.
  • Develop and maintain volunteerism-related programs and activities, including calls for volunteers, awards and recognition, to engage members year-round and strengthen the Society’s leadership pipeline.
  • Ensure the Society has a robust program for orienting and managing volunteers, including the Board of Directors and Committees.
  • Manage the Society’s Fellows program by soliciting and vetting applications and delivering benefits.
  • Serve as the lead staff expert for the Society’s AMS (Impexium), overseeing its configuration, maintenance, and third-party application integrations to support membership and other operations, while managing outsourced resources to ensure responsive customer service and maintain accurate, high-quality data.
  • Oversee the Member Engagement and Governance Administrator’s management of the Society’s Interdisciplinary Network Steering Committees and Professional Communities.

Governance

  • Oversee nomination and election processes for the Society’s Board of Directors and Professional Communities.
  • Generate and analyze membership data and member histories to support and inform nominations and appointment selection processes.
  • Support the Chief Executive Officer, Executive Committee and Board of Directors by facilitating the development, collection and circulation of meeting agendas and materials.
  • Review meeting minutes prior to publication and analyze post-meeting surveys in order to recommend process improvements.
  • Manage the Conflict of Interest (COI) process for Board and Committee members.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Responsible for supervising the Society's Member Engagement and Governance Administrator and external vendors.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required with a minimum of 4 years in a manager-level role or 2 years in a director-level role.
  • A minimum of 2 years’ supervisory experience.
  • Experience overseeing membership recruitment, retention and related activities, preferably within a healthcare association or professional society.
  • Experience managing volunteer committees and working with board-level leadership; familiarity with nonprofit governance principles preferred.
  • Highly developed project management and organizational skills.
  • Able to see the big picture, monitor key performance metrics, and take the action necessary to bring about change.
  • Leadership qualities, including empathy, accountability, the ability to inspire others and build confidence with ISHLT team members, volunteers, and other stakeholders.
  • Maturity and organizational savvy; ability to work independently and in collaboration with teams; strong interpersonal skills.
  • Intermediate to advanced experience with Impexium (preferred) or similar AMS.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office products; advanced knowledge of Excel.
