Job summary

Raymond Engineering-Georgia, LLC seeks a Director of Mechanical Engineering to lead and grow the mechanical engineering department. The role requires strategic leadership, project delivery oversight, staffing planning, and technical excellence across HVAC, plumbing, and building systems.

The candidate will mentor staff, develop proposals, manage budgets, and coordinate with architects and clients to ensure high-quality outcomes. A PE license and 16+ years of experience are preferred.

Qualifications

• ABET/EAC-accredited bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent per review).
• PE license in the United States with active NCEES record.
• 16+ years mechanical engineering experience (15+ with MS; 22+ for non-US degree).
• Extensive HVAC, plumbing, and building systems experience.
• Experience managing large projects and multidisciplinary teams.
• Proficient with AutoCAD, Revit, Trane TRACE 3D, Trane 700, MS Office.
• Knowledge of UFC/DoD/VA design criteria preferred.
• Leadership in workload management, staff development, budgeting, and team leadership.
• Willingness to travel ~20%.

Responsibilities

• Lead and develop the Mechanical Engineering department in line with goals.
• Assess workloads and forecast staffing needs based on active work.
• Assign personnel to projects and monitor utilization.
• Lead project teams; ensure deliverables on schedule and within budget.
• Provide senior-level expertise on HVAC, plumbing, and building systems.
• Review drawings, specifications, calculations, reports, and fees.
• Conduct QA and constructability reviews for codes and standards.
• Support planning, fieldwork, and review of field reports.
• Prepare and review project reports, estimates, and scopes of work.
• Assist in developing proposals, pricing, and schedules.
• Coordinate with architects, engineers, PMs, clients, and multidisciplinary teams.
• Monitor project progress; address risks related to scope, budget, and quality.
• Support business development, marketing, and client retention.
• Build relationships with clients and industry stakeholders.
• Lead staffing decisions and performance evaluations.
• Develop departmental training programs and standards.
• Ensure staff have tools, templates, and resources needed.
