Lumicity is seeking a Director of Mechanical Engineering for Silicon Photonic Optical Circuit Switches in the San Francisco Bay Area. This role is the primary owner of all mechanical aspects in product development, with the opportunity to build and lead a high-performing team in a high-visibility environment.

The position offers a competitive base salary plus equity, and requires hands-on design, prototype development, and strong vendor management in data centers, telecoms, or fiber optics.

Director of Mechanical Engineering - Silicon Photonic Optical Circuit Switches - Bay Area

Lumicity is partnered with an innovative, well-funded startup that is poised to revolutionize the future of data centers through their novel MEMS-based Silicon Photonic Optical Circuit Switch technology.

They are looking for a highly skilled and strategic Director of Mechanical Engineering that will be the primary owner and driver of all of the mechanical aspects in their product development.

This is a high impact, high visibility role within the company where you will own the technical authority and have the opportunity to build a high performing team.

Salary: Competitive Base Salary + Equity

The skills needed for the role include:

• Hands-on ability to confidently design precision mechanical components and assemblies.
• Confident in approach to drive mechanical designs from concept, through prototype, validation and production.
• Ability to identify critical simulation needs in the designs, including mechanical, thermal and dynamic.
• Experienced working with vendors on precision machined, sheet metal, molded and fabricated parts.
• Background / knowledge working in data centers, telecoms, or fiber optics.
• Strong, innovative leadership style with previous experience building and leading high performing teams.
• Proactive in approach, with a solutions driven mindset.
