Director of Major Gifts

Remote / Development / Full-time

Indivisible is hiring a Director of Major Gifts. Reporting to the National Development Director, this position will lead major gifts fundraising to meet ambitious, multi-million dollar annual targets by cultivating and stewarding existing major donors, building a pipeline, and implementing moves management strategies for solicitations. The role involves developing and executing multi-channel fundraising strategies, maintaining a strong, inclusive team culture, and fostering a culture of philanthropy across the organization.

The Director of Major Gifts will join a high-performing, collaborative Development team of 7, tasked with raising over $10 million annually. The ideal candidate is a highly organized, results-driven leader with deep knowledge of progressive philanthropic and political spaces and a proven track record of securing five- and six-figure gifts. They should be committed to supporting the Indivisible movement and aligned with its principles and change strategy.

This is a full-time, remote position, preferably for candidates in CA, DC, or NY metro areas. The salary starts at $99,000 annually, commensurate with experience, with comprehensive benefits including health coverage, a professional development stipend, and a 401(k). Responsibilities
  1. Major Gift Fundraising (50%)
  2. Lead strategy to cultivate, steward, and grow a portfolio of 200+ donors.
  3. Build relationships with and steward existing major donors, including onboarding, personalized communication, and engagement activities.
  4. Design tailored cultivation and stewardship plans, organize donor meetings and events, and develop compelling donor materials.
  5. Manage donor relationships on behalf of leadership, organize trips and meetings, and involve program staff and senior leaders.
  6. Set and meet annual goals over $3.5M, ensuring sustainable growth.
  1. Prospecting (20%)
  2. Research, qualify, and engage new prospects using creative tactics and wealth research platforms.
  3. Collaborate with the National Development Director and stakeholders to expand the donor network.
  1. Strategy (15%)
  2. Develop revenue goals, prepare performance reports, and align fundraising with organizational philosophy.
  3. Track program success, propose new initiatives, and ensure data is properly maintained in Salesforce.
  1. Team Leadership (10%)
  2. Manage two direct reports, support their professional growth, and foster an inclusive team culture.
  3. Contribute to organizational culture and support organization-wide goals.
  1. Other (5%)
  2. Coordinate with digital team on donor engagement, participate in travel for meetings, and lead special fundraising projects.
Required Qualifications
  • At least 7 years of relevant experience, including 5+ years in major gifts fundraising with a successful record of securing large gifts.
  • Experience with donors in democracy reform, grassroots organizing, civic leadership, or progressive policy spaces, with specifics on amounts raised and portfolio size.
  • Excellent writing, verbal, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills, experience with prospect research, pipeline development, and moves management.
  • Experience managing diverse teams and fostering inclusive cultures.
  • Fluency with donor management systems like Salesforce and fundraising tools.
  • Alignment with Indivisible’s values and strategy.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience with 501(c)(4), PAC, or 501(c)3 organizations.
  • Grassroots organizing experience is a plus.
