Job description

Director of Maintenance & Transportation

Ropes ISD is currently accepting applications for a Director of Maintenance & Transportation for the 2025-2026 school year.

Position Details:

  • Days: 226
  • Salary: Based on experience
  • Insurance: District contributes $325 toward employee insurance
  • Application Deadline: Until filled

Primary Purpose:

  • Direct and manage district’s maintenance and custodial operations. Maintain physical school plant in excellent operating condition so that full educational use may be made at all times. Provide a physical environment that is functional, safe, clean, and attractive.
  • Direct and manage district’s transportation operations. Ensure safe and efficient operation of transportation department. Oversee maintenance of all district-owned vehicles.

Qualifications:

  • Education/Certification:
      • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
      • Clear and valid Texas driver’s license
  • Experience:
    • 5 years supervisory experience in maintenance operations; preferred
    • 5 years experience in maintaining a large plant or building; preferred
    • 5 years years supervisory experience in transportation and fleet operations; preferred
    • 5 years years experience as a bus driver; preferred
  • Maintenance Special Knowledge/Skills:
      • Knowledge of basic principles of construction, school plant maintenance, and custodial operations
      • Ability to conduct on-site inspection of district facilities
      • Ability to manage budget and personnel
      • Ability to implement policy and procedures
      • Ability to interpret data
      • Ability to read blueprints and schematics
      • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Transportation Special Knowledge/Skills:
    • Ability to direct and manage operations of a large fleet of vehicles
    • Ability to pass U.S. Department of Transportation alcohol and drug tests and annual physical exam
    • Knowledge of energy management and vehicle repair and maintenance
    • Ability to conduct on-site inspections of all vehicle repair and maintenance operations
    • Ability to manage budget and personnel
    • Ability to implement policy and procedures
    • Ability to interpret data
    • Ability to use technology to plan, operate, monitor, and evaluate transportation operations
    • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills

Requirements:

  • Must pass a background check.
  • Must hold a valid Class B CDL with P (Passenger) & S (School Bus) endorsements and air brakes, or willingness to obtain
