Job summary

Texas A&M University System Offices is seeking a Director of Licensing for Physical Sciences and Engineering in College Station. This senior leader will build and run a high-performing licensing team focused on materials, semiconductors, photonics, energy, manufacturing, and related tech.

Engagements span faculty, researchers, industry partners, and external stakeholders to advance commercialization. The role emphasizes a data-driven, startup-friendly approach with rigorous portfolio management,

Qualifications

• Demonstrated track record in managing complex IP and licensing matters in physical sciences or engineering.
• Strong understanding of patents, licensing, startup pathways, and industry partnerships.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills across internal and external partners.

Responsibilities

• Lead commercialization strategy for physical sciences and engineering technologies in alignment with Texas A&M Innovation's mission.
• Build a vertically oriented licensing function with domain expertise and proactive portfolio development.
• Develop annual and multi-year plans for portfolio growth, licensing performance, and industry engagement.
• Shape a durable commercialization engine emphasizing impact, partnerships, startups, and long-term value.
• Lead, mentor, and develop a team of licensing managers and staff in physical sciences and engineering.
• Design and improve workflows for disclosure triage, IP strategy, marketing, negotiation, and portfolio management.
• Establish service standards, process visibility, and accountability for timelines and planning.
• Implement tools like pathway playbooks, milestone maps, and evaluation rubrics to improve throughput.
