Our client, a private life sciences company unifying AI and biotech to discover breakthrough treatments, has exclusively retained Solutus Legal to assist with their first in-house legal hire. This role offers an exciting opportunity for an attorney to develop the company's legal function, overseeing daily legal activities such as commercial relationships, strategic transactions, compliance, and corporate governance. The attorney will report directly to the COO, who is highly supportive.

The ideal candidate will:

• Have a J.D., CA Bar admission, and 3-4+ years of legal experience; in-house experience is a plus but not required
• Be a proactive doer, comfortable working independently, able to escalate issues or seek outside counsel when needed
• Possess sound business judgment, curiosity, and the ability to balance risk and opportunity
• Have excellent organizational skills and a desire to implement processes and efficiencies

Responsibilities include:

• Partnering with leadership and stakeholders to address legal matters and scale the legal function
• Managing legal projects and serving as the internal legal point of contact for various priorities
• Reviewing and negotiating agreements such as biotech materials, technology, and commercial contracts
• Designing policies, systems, and scalable workflows
• Managing contract lifecycle solutions and training staff
• Staying updated on relevant regulatory and compliance requirements
• Managing outside counsel relationships as needed

Compensation is targeted around $230,000 base, with a 20% bonus and equity. Total compensation varies based on experience and seniority. The company values employee well-being and continuously improves benefits.
